@gembo @lanterne bru while we are there (Slateford Rd between Craighlockhart Ave and Slateford Station), how do you like the certain pizza joint delivery cars occupying both the parking bay and the bus lane in the evenings? 4 cars parked in the bus lane the other night.

Open the link in a Private Browser window. Use an ad-blocker, like uOrigin. Otherwise the chipwrapper is basically an unreadable mess of jumpy adverts

@bill, well I am going the other way so it is not so bad for me but yes up there with Favorit.

@bill like gembo I'm heading uphill there in the evenings but yes, v poor parking from the pizza people. That whole stretch from traffic lights at Slateford station to the army reserve centre on Lanark road tends to have the worst standard of driving on my commute.

@lanterne Bru, after a late shift I was advancing from the red box, right hand lane under bonnie prince charlie aqueduct towards Codfather as it was (dominos now). Before moving into the left lane I checked over my left shoulder. Odd as going straight ahead is only permissible from the right lane. There to my surprise was a bmw driving at speed. Maybe i heard the raj Russian mafia drug dealer coming or maybe my spider senses were tingling.but glad I shoulder checked to the left for sure.

@gembo always shoulder check when moving into that lane, had a couple of hairy undertakes at that junction. Selfishly would prefer no left-lane filter at the lights as hoping for driving standards to improve or proper enforcement of driving laws seems too much to hope for.

“hoping for driving standards to improve or proper enforcement of driving laws seems too much to hope for”
Seems so.
Certainly needs legislators to take it all more seriously.
Hard to know how much they don’t know there’s any problem or they are just scared of being labelled’ anti-motorist just before an election.

THE problem of ‘boy racers’ in North Queensferry was raised at a meeting last week.
There have been regular complaints and chairman of the village’s community council, Iain Mitchell, advised anyone who witnessed it to report it to the police.
At the meeting he said that, while it would “yield no action whatsoever”, more reports and recording of car licence plates would strengthen the argument that something should be done.

Out for a 15 mile cycle today some on paths yet I encountered some really crap driving when I was on the road.
Extremely close and very dangerous overtake on Queen St by a SUV. Numerous IDGAF drivers who ignored that parked cars were on their side of the road and just carried on despite there not been that much room. Lastly some old biddy who seems to have forgotten how to turn her steering wheel when turning right and almost took me out as I waited to turn right on to the road she was coming from. When I am driving I rarely encounter such behaviour so why the hell do drivers think its acceptable to do it when I'm on my bike!

Witnessed some shocking overtakes on the coast road yesterday. This clip probably has the worst of the bunch: https://t.co/S4UYrtNBic?amp=1
Solid white line? Oncoming traffic? Who cares!
I've since bumped my camera back up to 1080p recording as unfortunately I couldn't positively identify the number plate of the red Corsa.

Man with Papa Johns Pizza doofer on his car looking at facebook on his phone while waiting for the lights to change. Tried to tell me that it was OK because he wasn't moving.

“Tried to tell me that it was OK because he wasn't moving.“
A common belief.
Shouldn’t be too hard to have a public information/safety campaign - plus a bit more enforcement...

Shocking amount of speeding by drivists on Royal Mile this afternoon as I walked down the narrow, and fairly busy footway.
Never realised so many key workers headed home at 4.30pm on a Wednesday. Edinburgh must be key worker central. Unless of course there's some other explanation for the number of vehicles rat-running...

non-paying attention driverist came out of Carrington Rd onto East Fettes Av this morning and knocked me off as I was going to office post-school drop-off.
"Sorry I didnt see you" is like a red rag etc...
it a wide street with huge unobstructed sightlines. Thankfully there was a witness who mediated as I was apoplectic with rage.
Only 5 schools within a few hundred meters of that location, kids on bikes everywhere, but she didnt see me.

@dessert rat, hope the bike is ok, and you of course too

Handy police station nearby!
Don’t suppose any officers around though...

@chdot - they drove over in their bmw 4x4. I didn't feel it was appropriate to point out that it was a journey that could have ben accomplished on foot.

Hah!
Were they useful?
Posted 3 years ago # -
dessert rat I initially read that as someone drove over your bike.... rather than drove across to chat.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Polis arrived and drove over the bike just to make sure it was a write off. Not inconceivable.
Posted 3 years ago # -
@dessert rat - sorry to hear this - hope you and the bike are ok.

The 29er remains largely ridable (slight rear buckle only I think). The rider remains as belligerent as ever.

Good thinking to take a photo. Do make sure they pay for the wheel repair/replacement.

Cycling downhill on the shared use path alongside Lasswade Road (roughly here, although it's a proper side street crossing now, rather than just a car park entrance, and the give way markings have been removed.) Driver turned left off Lasswade Road just before I reached the junction. Thankfully I realised what was happening in enough time to stop, but I shouted loud enough that they stopped. A quick discussion about who has priority at junction followed, and then we both headed off, presumably with neither of us changing our minds.
Unfortunately this meant I was in a rather foul mood a minute when a pedestrian said "You should be on the road!" as I cycled carefully past. I think I was "terse" rather than "rude" as I stopped, said "No I shouldn't, look!" and pointed at the blue shared use sign, but it's quite possible that they think I was rude. I got a very half-hearted wave of apology, said thanks and cycled off towards West Linton.
EDIT: Forgot the [rule 2] in a loud BMW who tried to pull out in front of me in Penicuik, immediately VRRROOOOMMMMEDDD to overtake, then overtook the car in front, which was stopped at a red light at some roadworks. 15 seconds later, an ambulance came the other way, and I don't think they were actually held up, but it must've been tight.

Nothing to do with me, I just saw it on Twitter:

Almost wish I hadn't seen that. A horrible lack of consideration for ones fellow human beings.
