The wee french plated car that turned left onto the cycle path at the bottom of Argyle place and drove along to meadow place then tried to get out at the ped crossing on marchmont road........

@mjg really? That does explain it.
That's crazy. Bad for cars, too. I'd probably have had the same issue if I'd been driving.

Having witnessed french and moroccan "driving" up REAL close and first hand, that behaviour rightly is appalling to us, but probably quite the norm for our European visitor..... R

The Polish driver of the red Renault Clio who pulled out of a Gorgie junction this evening without looking consequently causing Mr MeepMeep to install a new large dent in his car bonnet. Fortunately no damage to either his body further to a slightly swollen knee from impact or his bike at first evaluation but obviously Mr MeepMeep's shaken up.

Won't publish the registration as the driver's insurance cover is dubious and may require a trip to the old bill (have a witness' phone number and photographs of the car and the driver's Polish licence). Very similar to my accident last April though far better conditions tonight.

'Licensed' black cab T527 TSF roared past me on the inside after I'd stopped at the eastbound red light on Princes Street at the Mound/Hanover junction. A little while later he almost took out a girl on a bike when he swerved around her inside on the approach to the Leith Street/Walk roundabout.

Police minibus accelerated to get through pedestrian crossing in cowgate at amber the other day, no siren, just trying to avoid RLJing. I would have imagined fairly safe to brake but hey, we all make erroneous judgement calls

Friday evening about twenty to six, I came off the cycle path at Wester Coates Terrace, and fifty yards ahead of me an unmarked white van reversed out of a small side road into my path.

I was ready to give the driver my 'blatant Highway code rule 201 violation' face as I passed. But it would have been wasted: the reason for his disregard to other road users was because he was chatting away on his mobile as he steered with the other hand.

I stopped in front of him, and signed that he shouldn't be on a phone. Of course, the phone swiftly disappears, his window squeaks down and I get both the shoulder-shrugging 'What have I done?' argument mixed with an aggressive, four-letter diatribe against cyclists. Because somehow it was my fault.

Sadly I only remembered his registration for about 10 seconds. But I'll have the camera ready tonight; I suspect he's a repeat offender.

The page refresh when "sending post" seems to have swallowed my "today's rubbish driving" entry and logged me out to boot. Essentially, the original post read:

Male driver of SO04 AUA. Metallic sand coloured wannabe 4x4 type of vehicle on South Gyle Crescent at around 07.35 today and yesterday - two very, very close passes. The one yesterday I put down to almost wiping out a pedestrian crossing the road so didn't post but just as close this morning so decided to find the thread.

Parks in the Lloyds Banking Group car park between Teviot House and Ettrick House. Toying with leaving a note but struggling with apathy.

My usual rubbish drivers, this morning managed to block my progress on pavement by offloading a too large and obviously unridden mountainbike (you know the type) for their child from their boot, so it could be wheeled (by mother!) into bike shed. presume the school is doing bike training today...

Yesterday evening, heading from the end of the WoL to Leith Links, an obviously-impatient car came up behind me as I was holding a line suitable for overtaking the cyclist in front of me when they dived left into the gutter when they had passed all the parked cars. I can't remember the exact order of the priorities through all the single-lane pinch-points but the chump decided to overtake me when I pulled into the left to allow the oncoming traffic through (which had priority at that particular pinch-point), resulting in beeping from the offended oncoming vehicles. The impatient chump then accelerated for most of the remaining hundred feet until the red light at the top of Restalrig Road.

LOL - some folk have little grasp of the absurd.

I'm sure our Islabikes won't have much resale value, unless the buyer recognises quality beausage when they see it!

This morning was the Red Renault* Clio SM11 EDR in Comiston Road and the pinch point of the traffic island just short of Braid Hills Road. I'm over to the right further than normal due to the snow / slush that seems to congregate at that corner and was trailed down the road for some distance this morning.

Anyway they just had to get past via a very close pass.

I did have to go through the slush via the shortest distance to turn up Braid Hills Road and things were a little "squirrely" which confirms I was correct in being further to the right to avoid it.

    * Other badly driven cars are available, however why are so many Renaults, Peugeots and Citroens? And come to think about it why do so many of the aforementioned makes have faulty lights on one side or the other?

I agree, it does on first glance seem absurd. But... If the kid has little to no experience of riding, and the mother has absolutely none (and possibly doesn't even own a bike), then riding to the school may 'seem' dangerous (remember, PoP is all about addressing the fact that people don't actually feel able to cycle). Presuming the bike is being taken there for cycle training then we'd have to be happy that that 'might' improve that situation? Everyone has to start somewhere?

yes, I'm pleased that the kid at least has a bike, and that he's getting cycle training.

even more pleased if his parents occasionally remember to shoulder check or use their mirrors

Funny how the shoulder check becaomes second nature. Driving, cycling... walking... I've seen myself shoulder check in the middle of nowhere hillwalking having not seen another soul for a couple of hours, because I'm moving to the other side of the path to sit on a rock.

It was bike safety checking today. A few Islabkes and one Road bike. Lots of apollo suspension bikes. Most bikes were in good nik good to see most of them covered in mud. out of 30 or so bikes only about 5 needed serious treatment. Cycle training starts in 3 weeks. I managed to take a knuckle off on one bike and cover most of the kids take home letters in blood....... that's what it's all about!!!!

On the outside lane on Melvile Place about to turn onto Queensferry St breezing along at 17mph. Airlink bus on Melvile Place decided to undertake myself, then turn right towards Ryans Bar only to get stuck in traffic works 15m later.

Twice this Airlink bus has come close to forcing to brake hard or veer to the side.

Single decker Lothian bus, east end of Princes St, no number*, clearly headed to depot/dinner time early evening today. Driver must have been keen to get home, as he ran the red light at the junction with Waterloo Place, then proceeded to overtake too close as I headed towards Regent Road.

I'm quite glad I don't have to cycle in rush hour too much...

    * - didn't catch license plate either.

@DeathbyPompino - I've complained to LRT before about their drivers use of this junction after they were assuming priority over oncoming traffic from Randolph Place and effectively taking out anyone going straight ahead. Sounds like youve had a similair problem but from the other direction so may be worth dropping them a line. I guess the more complaints they get the more likely they are to investigate. LRT suggested to me they were likely to carry out 'covert' filming!!

As 'we' know, LB has a good record for investigating complaints and reporting back.

Bullying behaviour from white van (Georgian Windows, reg SO00ATX). Stupid - don't they know that cyclists are potential clients? Nothing overly dangerous - just arrogant and offensive.

I was in primary position in a queue in the left lane at the traffic lights crossing Milton Link (by the Big W) - I was coming from Musselburgh. Someone in van behind shouts get in the cycle lane. Then the van revvs several times and when the light changes forces its way past.
Apart from safety and respect for others, this was stupid because:
    - he was going straight on into a bus lane
    - if I had gone in the wee cycle lane, I could have gone to the front of the queue anyway. Also many vehicles turn left there so it is safer to be in the middle.
    - I caught it up at the next two sets of traffic lights.
    - van was clearly identifiable.

See the post 3 weeks ago from Colin. Georgian Windows obviously have a driver with anger issues.
