Mass drivist disobedience at the temporary traffic lights on George IV Bridge this morning, streams of cars going through the northbound red light. I nearly got hit stopping to obey the signal in the bike lane. What arm of Police Scotland hypothetically would deal with this? (have no confidence any practical action would occur)

Those lights are a joke. They need to be removed and the zebra put back. A cycling friend of mine (ahem) regularly disobeys them.

@neddie I don't think they're just there to create a signalised crossing though. They're meant to control the flow of traffic entering/exiting Chambers St while North Bridge is out of action. Not saying they're well thought out or implemented, Chambers St should probably have been closed to vehicles at the GIV end for the duration. This morning, there was a cyclist wanting to turn right into Chambers St who was totally marooned and when I stopped briefly on the inside, cars were zooming past our respectively elbows at 20mph+ so their behaviour was dangerous.

Lots of impatient, aggressive drivers round Easter Road way this afternoon. A mixture of blatant speeding whenever a bit of clear road opens up; MGIF pointless overtakes 50 yards before a junction; MGIF close passes; MGIF blocking of ASL; etc. It's the new normal these days unfortunately.

Driver turned left out of Gracemount Avenue as I was cycling north on Lasswade Road.
I felt slightly bad about the language I used when I realised they had L plates, but hopefully they take the...er...constructive criticism...on board. Maybe they'll even let their windows demist before setting off next time.

@Frenchy: I have noticed a lot of learner drivers on the roads these past few months - noticeably more than before first lockdown IMO. I've read that driving schools, instructors and examiners are dealing with a fairly sizeable backlog of would-be drivers, probably swollen further by people deciding they want to be able to avoid public transport while the pandemic persists (and of course the only way to do that is to drive a private car).

@ejstubbs, well aye of course. How else are you supposed to take your pet fridge freezer out for a bit of fresh air? I mean, you could put it on the bus but the poor thing might get covid.
Plenty of folk out there who have not ridden public transport for nearly two years.....maybe that will change once it's free at the point of use for young people?

Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a road traffic crash which happened at Ravelston Dykes at the junction with Murrayfield Road.
At around 1.25pm on Thursday, 2 December, 2021, a beige VW Golf being driven east on Ravelston Dykes Road, at the junction with Murrayfield Road, collided with a white Citroen C3 before overturning and coming to rest in a nearby garden.
The driver and sole occupant of the Golf, a 61-year-old man, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the Citroen was uninjured.

A road vehicle has struck a bridge between Brunstane and Newcraighall. The bridge will need to be examined by our response team who are currently on route to the scene. Until then we are unable to run trains through these stations, services may be altered as a result.

Exceptionally close pass by the driver of a purple Mini Cooper (number plate PK55 NGY) as I approached the Admiralty Road/M90 roundabout in Rosyth.
They then immediately turned left to get onto the M90. Total time saved by their manoeuvre might have been two seconds, at most.
Fortunately for them, they timed it absolutely perfectly with the short gap between files on my camera. This may actually be fortunate for me, too, as I won't end up wasting my time reporting it to the police.

Driver was checking his mobile while bus stopped at lights in Perth yesterday. Sound on so I spotted even though he was doing discreetly. We were only passengers on bus. (OT - on 3 buses and covered 70 miles in 3 and half hours including waiting times of 25 mins. Seamless free integrated transport by Stagecoach/ Strathtay. Careful driving throughout apart from that one incident.)

As for almost killing a stranger in a moment of madness: that too, as demonstrated by Mr Moult, is best done, for the avoidance of more stringent penalties, from a seatbelted position inside, for preference, one of the car industry’s more environmentally objectionable models.

Almost completely wiped out by a royal mail truck on Saturday on way to swimming with the wee lad in cargo bike at the Gyle. Was descending Cultins Road from the canal exit at hermiston gait down that road to cross the tram tracks to get to the Gyle.
Big red lorry exited the royal mail depot there that backs onto Hermiston Gait, and didn't pause for a second, nor give more than a cursory glance out his side window. I was travelling pretty much at exactly the speed that would have meant that, as he kept moving, I was exactly in his A-pillar blind spot.
Thankfully I saw this coming a mile off so moved out and slowed down. I also gestured significantly into his mirrors as he turned away from me and he spotted me at that point. I got a "sorry I almost killed you" wave.
We've no chance really.

My kids are so scared by that entrance/exit. We usually go on the pavement there*, and take the crossing super slow. That, or wide and fast on the road, are the only ways to go.
Royal mail continues to be the most oblivious drivers. They seem utterly unshameable.
*the only place in Edinburgh that I can think of where we do that.

Experienced possibly the worst individual driving manoeuvre I've ever seen on Saturday. Turning right at the Levenhall Roundabout from the Prestonpans exit and the car that was behind me decides it would be a great idea to undertake me while we are both on the roundabout and takes the same exit as me. I caught the number plate SM12 KGF but as I was on my winter road bike didn't have a camera fitted. There was a 124 bus so it might have been worth contacting them for CCTV/dashcam footage but I suspect it's probably too late now. What goes on in people's brains? Honestly?
