It's an old video from 2 or 3 years ago, IIRC.

Still no excuse, but why is the Tweeter reposting someone else's video to re-stoke all the hatred?

Is it because Twitter (and other social media outlets) actively promote tweets that contain anger, hatred and controversy? All to drive their "views", screen-time and advertising revenue up?

Don't be taken for fools - this is all about marketing stuff to you, that you don't want or need...

Had a lovely and almost entirely uneventful ride out to South Queensferry and back this evening, only a little spoiled by some silly woman in a white range rover(I seem to be a magnet for stereotypes, hah) almost wiping me out at the mini roundabout at the corner of Inverleith Park - close pass, at a junction, followed by an immediate left hook, so it's safe to assume she hasn't read the new highway code. Or, I suspect, any iteration of it since her test.

You'd hope that would enter the head of the "driver", but no sign of it from those quotes...

If someone I cared about made such a basic driving skill error that if something I would be discussing with them. Extremely lucky no-one was seriously injured.

The grief-stricken family of popular Perth teacher Adam Pattinson has welcomed the sentence imposed on his killer.

Thomas Smith was jailed for two years for causing the head-on collision which killed Perthshire Rugby Club captain Mr Pattinson in February 2020.

OK. Posted here of course as well as Sustrans thread. Very sad.
The non-cycling brigade would say that road not suitable for bikes and cyclists should go round smaller roads. But real safety improvements are needed on direct routes if we are to increase bike use without such tragic events.

Poor driving and poor complaining: "I naively thought they might let me off at least one of the charges". Those unfortunate and persecuted drivists.

"I missed the signs, as I was navigating using a satnav." In an article illustrated with a photo of what looks like perfectly clear signage of the Birmingham Clean Air Zone. And AFAIK (and I use SatNav a fair amount) you don't have have to spend all your time looking at the screen. And lo and behold, Rule 50 of the HIghway Code says: "There is a danger of driver distraction being caused by in-vehicle systems such as satellite navigation systems, congestion warning systems, PCs, multi-media, etc. You MUST exercise proper control of your vehicle at all times."

So basically: zero sympathy. They need to look where they're going next time.

Man found guilty of murder after dragging victim under car in Surrey

A driver has been found guilty of murdering a man by hitting him with a car and dragging him for more than half a mile. Martin Eastwood, 22, used a stolen Ford S Max to kill Liam Dent in the early hours of 26 July 2019 after a confrontation outside a pub in Chessington, Surrey.

The jury heard Eastwood had convictions for two previous offences involving a car, including an incident in September 2018, when he drove a stolen vehicle at a cyclist, knocking him to the ground and causing him multiple fractures. Then in April 2019, he drove a stolen vehicle at a man, knocking him to the ground and causing him abrasions.

Dent was dragged for half a mile at speeds of up to 32mph before landing in Moor Lane, Chessington. Jurors heard the 25-year-old victim was still alive and was able to lift his head up and move his arm, but died soon after.

So, not "a momentary lapse of attention that could happen to any one of us" then?

    Ms Speid plead guilty.

For some reason the prosecution dropped the assault charge despite the admitted "nudge".

Banned from driving but for how long.

Jeez, a bit more than "rubbish" driving that - both travelling in the same direction at 12pm in August.

Don't know if there's a "drivers on phone" thread but see if you can guess how many this guy catches in a month:

On the Critical Mass ride I was a bit surprised at how many drivers were on their phone, with some even filming us. Need to hurry up with the online reporting system as a helmet cam could catch plenty when cycling past traffic looking in cars...

Now if that was cyclingmikey most would be getting done for it!

Although I suspect that Police Scotland would shrug their shoulders unlike the Met.

That's going to be the big X-factor really isn't it - they can bring in the fanciest submission and processing system money can buy, if they don't train officers to take it seriously and incentivise them to act on submissions they'll just do what a lot of forces down south have done and default to sending most offenders a timid warning letter.

A Fife man who led police on a high-speed pursuit from Kirkcaldy to Aberdour has been banned from driving for a year and told to carry out unpaid work.

During his heart-in-mouth journey, David Ingram came close to striking another car, a cyclist and pedestrians as he sped towards Shell and Exxon’s liquified petroleum gas export base at Braefoot Bay.
