An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer in Edinburgh.

Around 4.15pm on Wednesday, 11 January, 2023, following a routine stop in the Bathfield area for suspected road traffic offences, an officer was injured after being hit by a car.

    Enquiries are ongoing.

I hope the officer is okay. That said, it's funny how quickly the charge gets upgraded to "attempted murder" when the victim is wearing the right uniform...

The motorist was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and had previously been disqualified from driving. The man had an outstanding warrant, so was arrested by officers on the scene.

Fines and Points abound.... except for the close pass on a cyclist - Then it's training. Personally I think the insecure load penalties are quite light and charging through the red light got all they deserved but seriously a close pass and no penalty / incentive to modify behaviours around vulnerable road users?!?!

Thousands of drivers are clueless when it comes to common driving laws according to new data which could see them rack up almost £9,000 in fines. Despite enduring a long process to get a drivers licence nowadays, including sitting the theory test, some people still find themselves googling simple driving laws.

Just yer average load of victim blaming ***** from the polis here:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-64573254

Drivers are completely out of control. Several extreme speeders on my street last night.

This morning, 5 altercations: 2 left-hooks; 1 parked in bus lane; 1 taxi red light jumper; 1 on handheld phone

I feel like starting a war against the machines... Terminator style

I noticed as I passed that a lorry driver achieved "Great Success" at Cameron Toll this morning.

The curtainsider involved was bent in the middle with rear axle completely off the ground. Looked like quite a job to get it out again

A driver started overtaking me approaching a blind bend on Whitehill Road at Fort Kinnaird. Halfway round the corner an oncoming driver appeared, so the overtaking driver veered left, and I was lucky that I had anticipated this.

Five seconds later they had to stop to wait for more oncoming traffic before turning right. As I went past them I realised they were texting on their phone.

Complete lack of concern for the safety of fellow road users for absolutely no gain whatsoever.

Speeding is rife on most of the roads leading to Gowkley Moss roundabout, especially weekend warriors on their motorbikes and Important People in their loud Audis.

Dan Walker hit by a driver who evidently wasn't allowed a colouring-in book as a child as they appear incapable of staying in the lines :o

Despite this there's predictable levels of victim-blaming.

Note it's a pretty nasty clip and I'm linking to the road.cc article as the mainstream media articles appear to be the S*n and the Daily Wail.

Dan Walker says the helmet saved his life. His injuries looked to be on his chin, but maybe helmet did its job?

In worse news some professional cyclists want us to run lights during day time.

I want to start a new campaign that compels drivers to pass eye tests before they can drive a car, as in every time before the ignition works. Seems reasonable to me.

"In worse news some professional cyclists want us to run lights during day time."

Isn't this legal in some places? Giving cyclists the chance to get ahead of motorised vehicles?

@the Canuck, sorry, my bad, have our night time lights on in the day time, so blind drivers can see us, as in victim blaming.

    Ah!
I mean, I do often have lights on in the daytime, both car and bike, especially if the sun is lower, or it's recently rained but now sunny.
But I don't kid myself that it's going to save me from someone who isn't paying attention.

If daylight is poor, eg fog or just at dawn / dusk then I will run some lights
