Four injured in crash with unmarked police car and stolen BMW

Saw the Slateford road crash on my way to work on Friday. I only caught a glimpse and didn't notice the crushed cabinet so could not fathon how the red car was so comprehensively damaged despite no other vehicle being involved.
I was making my way along Queensferry Road this afternoon, heading for the Drumbrae left turn, with a little white car alongside me on my offside. The driver indicated left and immediately started to move, completely failing to notice that 300kg of motorbike was in her way.
Fortunately I was alert enough to drop back sharply and let her complete her manoeuvre, but she was given a sharp blast on the horn in response, which at least made her take notice and wave an apology.

A Met police statement said “At this time nine people are reported injured, these include two adults and seven children. We await further updates on their conditions.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests.”

Paramedics treated 16 people for injuries after the gold-coloured Land Rover crashed into The Study Preparatory School in Camp Road at about 10:00 BST.
London Ambulance Service says it took 10 people to hospital.
The driver, a woman in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

That is just awful.
I seem to remember a commercial being pulled because it showed something like this and it was deemed too traumatic for TV. :(
It makes me feel sick. If kids aren't safe at school where are they safe?
Last time I recall someone killing kids while they were at primary school we banned hand guns. Can we now ban these ridiculous toys. Or at least only allow them under specific use licences?
I realise the first act was premeditated and this presumably wasn't, however there was presumably some behaviour involved which the driver should have known was potentially lethal.

I don't understand how a delivery van and a super car end up with 6 passengers.
Today, crossing North Bridge and down into the gyratory... endless. Endless examples of rubbish driving Rubbish pedestrianising as well.
I don't understand how a delivery van and a super car end up with 6 passengers.
The Lamborghini is a four door car - could have had four passengers.
Ah.
In my defense, there wasn't much of that car left to indicate the doors.
Is there something particular about mondays? In the distance between the tesco at canonmills and where inverleith row gets to ferry road this afternoon, I had one mr magoo lookin' ancient guy almost drive up my back at the lights, three close passes(two by BMWs natch) and one old woman almost take me out head-on as she took such great care to pass a cyclist on her side of the road she apparently experienced complete perceptual blindness about everything else.
They'll be related to the (possibly tourist) driver of a large new SUV who decided that obviously, if you're coming out of a parking lot, you don't need to check the main road for people who are already on it.
Brakes on the new e-bike are working!
On the Mondays topic: yesterday morning passed closely by G Grigg builders dropside lorry on Harrison Road heading over the canal bridge towards the church. Naturally against oncoming traffic. Naturally the lights were red with traffic stopped. Gave the side a decent wallop as it passed which made a good loud clang and made the wazzock jump up in his seat.
Observed the futility of his behaviour as I passed not 5 seconds later.
Suspect "frustration" at having to drive behind me all the way from Angle Park (I mean...) due to more oncoming traffic had much to do with the MGIF. More of a plank than the scaffold boards he had in the back...
Those clarty gits are still a going concern? I thought for sure they'd have to close up shop after their involvement in the shared repairs scandal, but apparently not - given their lack of ethics in other regards, it's unsurprising they're [rule2] drivers as well.
Caveat that I didn’t see it and no idea of cause but nasty looking incident in Newington at the junction between S Clerk St and Bernard Ter. Guy lying in road getting seen to, Polo and one other car with damage. Hope no lasting damage to anyone, nevertheless sobering!
Happened right in front of me. Motorcyclist went almost head on into the grey Polo which was turning right. Not sure who was at fault as I wasn’t sure whether the lights were changing to red at the time or not. People, who were more capable than I, took control so I left the scene. Motorcyclist was conscious - and had all the gear on - so I hope he’s alright. Couple in the car were pretty shook up.
Ah, must have been a few mins behind you. Saw the girl and guy from the car, looked quite young. Often feel quite vulnerable turning right there to go down Minto from meadows direction. The lights don’t give you long especially if a lot of traffic coming straight on.
I was only out for about 25 mins earlier for a cycle to Broomhall and back yet I encountered the following -
1) a driver on the wrong side of the road on Caroline Terrace (unsure why)
2) A driver who decided that no entry at the top end of Featherhall Ave didn't apply to him
3) Caroline Terrace again, a driver to decided to make me wait although parked cars were on his side of the road.
Either phone use, drugs or just not paying attention - whatever reason, they shouldn't be on the road!
Number 2 is almost certainly willfully ignoring the rules. They know they are not allowed but they also think they are unlikely to face any real consequences.
Number 3 is unfortunately all too typical* bullying behaviour which I encounter with depressing regularity on my local streets, particularly during peak periods when Caiystane Crescent is used a rat-run between Comiston Road and Oxgangs Road. Rat-runners don't really want to give way to anyone if they can possibly help it, due to the risk of it making their rat-run pointless.
I had such a rat-runner come steaming towards me past cars parked on his side of the road the other day. He was doing easily more than 20mph to begin with, but chose to slow down to a more civilised rate when he realised that (a) I was coming through anyway, and (b) no, I wasn't going to ride in the gutter. He may even have learned a lesson about the actual size of his car, rather than the size he perceives it to be (see also historical references to size of car vs size of, er...well, you probably know where I was going there.)
* OTOH I've also encountered a reasonable number of polite, helpful drivers who do give way to me when they should - and sometimes even when they needn't e.g. one driver who stopped to let me through when the parked cars were on my side and I was freewheeling downhill, so would have suffered no significant inconvenience had I given way, as I was preparing to do when they stopped first and flashed me through. I find it helps to remember positive incidents like that one when processing negative ones such as yesterday's: a smile and a wave is a much better memory than a grimace and a muttered swear word.
“
Perhaps you could dismiss this incident as an example of simple bad driving, but SUVs represent a unique danger on our cities’ roads. Their popularity has boomed in recent years. Drivers are drawn to the higher road position that offers a feeling of security. But research from the US has found that while SUV drivers are involved in fewer collisions overall, when they crash into children, the collisions are eight times more likely to be fatal.

Welp, I almost died this evening. Coming down Broughton St at about 18, one car in front, blue hatchback waits patiently on other other side to turn across until the car passes him them promptly accelerates right out in front of me not even looking, and even breaking and swerving I would have been over his bonnet or under his wheels but for the fact my superpower is being extremely, obnoxiously loud when I want to be and bellowing "OI OI OI F***" was enough to catch his attention and get him to break - 2/3 of the way across my lane.
First time in a while I've had to pull over and have a wee rest.
There is a wierd thing, isn't there, where people can't believe the evidence of their own eyes. "That person is on a bike, gonna take them AGES to get to me. Got LOADS of time."
Hope your trousers stayed clean.
