That doesn't look like a Prius in the picture.

Looks too short to be a Prius of any sort, but maybe the CCTV is misleading

Another couple of prime examples of the standards of so-called professional drivers in this country.
These were the 2 worst from about 4 or 5 incidents on one 1hr lunchtime loop!

Seriously tempted to send the 1st one to the bus company. No point in sending to ScotSquad as they lack a portal despite the other 44 police services in the UK having one.

At least I'm getting my money's worth out of my Cycliq though maybe it's light isn't bright enough given my apparent cloak of invisibility?

EDIT: those offended by industrial language might want to either turn away or press mute!

I'd say yes worth sending that to the bus company - no need for him to overtake at all coming up to the lights and especially not in that manner.

BTW you'll want to sync the time on your Cycliq - you can do it through the paired iOS app - as it removes one obstacle when complaining, "the time isn't accurate - we don't know who was driving it at that time".

The time thing's annoying me tbh- the computer app has a 'sync with computer' option but there seems to be a timezone issue somewhere. Of course I have the GPS data on Strava and pretty sure they'd struggle to argue with that given it would be pitch-black at 8.45pm in December in Scotland but will try the phone app and see if it works any better (even if there's a timezone setting that needs adjusted)

At around 12.20pm on Wednesday, December 20, officers stopped a vehicle driving on the A720 near Dreghorn Junction due to ‘safety concerns’. A police officer was assaulted during the incident and a 13-year-old boy was charged. Police also charged a 61-year-old man and a report will be sent to Procurator Fiscal.

Ah, that probably explains the eastbound tailback from the Fairmilehead lights on Oxgangs Road yesterday lunchtime: https://twitter.com/trafficscotland/status/1737456685642383453 (such congestion is almost always due to drivers abandoning the bypass for the ex-A720, now the B701 - I'm pretty sure there were until not so long ago still "RR" ring road signs languishing at various points along its route).

@ejstubbs - the RR signs are for the cycling ring road, and are definitely still in existence all along its length: Captain's Road example

#GlasgowRP were called to this crash on the M8 near Bishopton this morning. Thankfully no one was injured. Please ensure that your tyres have plenty of tread especially in this horrible wet weather. Higher risk of aquaplaning.

@mcairney - large van driver with no spatial awareness?
You were moving along too with flashing front light I think - could see reflection on traffic lights.

Went onto STV news to see what was trending. The answer sadly are road related deaths and injuries
    • Two instances of cars mounting pavements (aka losing control)
    • One instance in retail car park
    • Other sad one of a care worker being killed on rural road.

Just a snapshot of how 'normal' this is. Most are hit and run with police appealing for dashcam footage. Cyclists of course might have go-pro but would be unlikely to not stop anyway imho.

Don’t think it’s dashcam footage ‘from drivers who passed by and didn’t stop’.

I think the ‘idea’ is of any footage of cars in the area at the time, though how much useful stuff they might get without a description of cars is unknown…

“Just a snapshot of how 'normal' this is.”

    THAT is very true.

We’ve all heard the arguments about ‘if they took it seriously, like trains and planes, they’d shut the roads’!

    Obviously it’s not so simple…

So we have ‘behaviour change’/enforcement/sentencing etc, none of them are good enough/working.

Oh and ‘blackspot engineering’ which can be effective and based on ‘cost per life saved’ - and/OR politics.

Which is why we seem to be stuck with the ‘MUST dual ALL of the A9’…

Yep in that clip I've just looked over my shoulder to see if it was safe to pull out to go round the ambulance before the driver attempts his ill-advised overtake. Just as well I did.
You're also correct in that I typically ride with 2 lights (one flashing, one solid) back and front on my bike even when riding during the day, and such is the standard of driving in this country I've still been hit twice in broad daylight by cars because 'they didn't see me'.
The problem (to me) seems simple- PlodScotland have more or less decriminalised driving. Speeding is endemic and since getting a new camera I'd say I see 3 or 4 pieces of driving that I would consider 'careless driving' (as in prosecutable) and 1 I would class as 'dangerous driving' on pretty much every ride. And I'm not riding at particularly busy times either with a mix of town/rural riding.
I do have recollections of there being a tame policeman who used to post here with all these great suggestions and ideas but as we all know, actions speak louder than words.

I am putting this report in this thread because I feel it is not likely to be rubbish cycling and I don't know any velomobile riders who are not experienced road users.

    https://www.shz.de/lokales/flensburg/artikel/unfall-auf-der-grenzstrasse-auto-kracht-mit-velomobil-zusammen-46229177

Schwerer Unfall auf der Grenzstraße: Autofahrer prallt mit Velomobil zusammen

    "
In a traffic accident early Monday morning on the border road, the driver of a tricycle was seriously injured. According to the first findings of the police, the 28-year-old was driving his velomobile on the L 192 coming from Ellund in the direction of Harrislee.

A VW bus driver, who was also driving in the direction of Harrislee, overlooked the tricycle driver and hit the vehicle at the rear. As a result of the impact, the velomobile was thrown to the right into the ditch.

The driver was able to free himself from the destroyed vehicle. An ambulance, which was immediately requested, took him to the emergency room of the Diako.

According to police, the man suffered significant bruises and abrasions, miraculously the man was only slightly injured, according to a police spokesman. The 45-year-old driver of the car was uninjured in the accident. The police are now checking whether the lights on the velomobile were switched on. The tricycle was completely destroyed in the accident.
    "

The tricycle was the same model as mine and the photograph in the article is quite telling of the impact the machine sustained.

But the laws governing London roads sometimes seem as though they’re set up to catch drivers out. Although Goldsmith was caught speeding (repeatedly), on two of those roads, he was only travelling 28mph and 29mph respectively in a 20mph zone. Speeding? Give me a break!

"Luckily, cabbies like me have speed limiters to stop us from accidentally breaking the speed limit – but most drivers don’t have access to that sort of thing, so they get caught out."

    Really?!?!

"Cyclists have taken over this city – and made my job a complete nightmare."

    Oh dear, what a shame....

"I drive an electric cab myself, and hope to see hybrid vehicles become a more affordable and realistic option for people in the future."

Funnily enough my one journey in an electric cab the driver saw fit to boot it to 45mph along Market St from Waverley station. While we were all obviously in awe at the torque and acceleration of your new toy could you perhaps slow down a bit as we'd like to get to our destination alive...

Very bizarre (and a bit rubbish)

I was at ///given.toffee.truffles* on my bike this afternoon, heading from the Threipmuir Car Park to the reservoir. I spotted a car (presumably from Easter Bavelaw Farm) coming towards me on 'my' side of the extremely wide track. So, I was on riding on the left side of the track, and they, from their perspective, were driving on the right side of the track. It's a long straight track and I had a bright light on: they would have seen me as soon as I rounded the bend, 200m away from them.

I stopped. The car stopped in front of me. The driver and passenger both gestured for me to ride around the car. I shook my head and pointed for them to get the car back on 'their' side of the track and drive around me.

With ill grace they did this, and while they passed me they effed and jeffed to each other and to me with much chuntering and pointing. I smiled sweetly at them the whole time, but I did say 'we drive on the left' as they passed.

This is an extremely wide track, with a good surface. There was nobody else about. Very bizarre.

*This W3W location is making me salivate

In the space of 24 hours...

Driver would have left-hooked me if I hadn't braked going down Gilmerton Road. Didn't even indicate.
Two drivers both pulled into the cycle lane to get past a car waiting to turn right on Old Dalkeith Road. First one probably had enough time and space, but the second certainly didn't; only stopped when I shouted.
Driver going up Gilmerton Dykes Street overtook a bus. Forty mph, at least.
Two drivers overtook a bus at a bus stop on Lasswade Road, despite the clearly visible oncoming traffic. The first did not have time and space to do this safely, and second had even less.
Several drivers overtook me (on separate occasions) whilst I was cycling at 25mph along Captain's Road, only to have to stop at the at the traffic lights which were very clearly red, and very clearly had a queue of cars at them.

I'm owed some good karma, I think.
