For those who know such things; how can the police fail to take action if Kenny turned up at their desk with that video?!?! It's APPALLING!

Trouble is, I guess, they see lots of things that are even more appalling. The temptation to say 'nobody died', or even 'nobody collided' must be very great for them.

Yes, they tend to have a "come back when you are dead" attitude towards a lot of things. And they sometimes get their wish.

I was once told by a counter clerk at Torphicen Street station that there was no such thing as "almost an accident" and as I had thrown myself onto the pavement to get out of the way of the bus turning across a red light then then there was nothing she could do as I hadn't been hit.

"I was once told by a counter clerk at Torphicen Street station that there was no such thing as "almost an accident" "
That may be true, but they should take more interest in careless/dangerous driving.

If that was me I'd have rattled his/her windows with my fist. But I do get cross when people seem to actively try to injure me.

Edinburgh Council white van (SJ12 YKL) who believed the advanced stop zone was for the purpose of making sure he could be alongside the bike already in it so he could make a good headstart when the lights changed. Lights had been on red a while so it was a very deliberate action. Is it worth mentioning this to the council, and if so, anyone have the appropriate contact? cheers

I wasn't on my bike but bad driving award goes to the taxi driver who mounted the pavement to do a u-turn this evening on Oxgangs Road near the Fairmilehead Crossroads. Common occurrence from Edinburgh's cabbies who like to think they own the roads and rules don't apply to them, however this one failed to spot me running on said pavement and only my senses built up from years cycling prevented me getting hit as I quickly moved to one side. It was daylight and he was not driving into the sun. I hate to think what would have happened if it was kids or parents with pushchair who couldn't move so quickly.
Anyway, without barely braking stride, I gave his taxi a couple of good thumps with my hand and told him my thoughts on his driving. Only a desire to keep the run going prevented me from stopping to have a good discussion with him. My hand hurt for a good few miles after, I hope his taxi has a dent in it as a result.

@geordiefatbloke when pics or time/details of dangerous driving sent to Leslie hinds, she usually says she will look into it.
@ianmb. Guess you didn't get taxi number? Well worth reporting to taxi licensing if so.

Last Wednesday at around 5:20 pm I witnessed this van SG Joinery heading northbound up Dalkeith Road, merrily weaving between the (in force) bus lane and the rest of the road, almost gleefully cutting up both cyclists and other drivers in a jaw-dropping display of irresponsibility. The van went along the meadows and eventually through Tarvit Street, before turning right into Home Street. Suffice to say that's a joinery company I'm not touching with a barge pole, although a cattle prod might be more appropriate anyway...

The driver of SM13 YUB clearly thinks (like too many others), that it's ok to drive while yapping on his hand-held mobile while negotiating the left turn from Chesser Avenue into new Market road ,then right into The Corn Exchange at 1140 on a busy Saturday morning. Your windows may be slightly tinted mate but we can still see you!

The blue focus who overtook me this morning with less than about .5 metre to spare. It was a slow overtake and probably in his mind sage so I think he was surprised when I gently rapped on the rear of his car.

Woman in a white VW Polo who came to a complete halt, twice, just off of the South Gyle Crescent/Broadway roundabout so she could wave to someone on the pavement on somewhere.
Also, big Audi Q8 thing stopped on double reds outside Kings Theatre getting a lot of dissaproving honking from other cars for blocking the lane as the occupants performed a "kiss and go" ritual, only for them to realise they were too close to the barriers to get the door open and for occupant to squeeze out. Then the lights changed and I missed out on what might have been an amusing conclusion.

Witnessed a bad SMIDSY this morning outside the Old Medical School in Teviot Place, as a taxi coming from Bristo Place cut in at speed to the taxi rank outside the building, narrowly missing the cyclist on the cycle lane there. It was really close... Scary (and just for me as witness - cyclist looked pretty shocked).

Was a driving instructor in a marked learner vehicle, who was fiddling with his phone in his hand while driving.
I stopped and expressed my shock at him texting while driving. He corrected me that he wasn't texting and it didn't have anything to do with me.
I explained that I wanted to get home safely and he encouraged me to do so.
I then spotted his Bluetooth earpiece in his other hand so I now accept that he wasn't texting he was trying to sync up his Bluetooth...
That gives me confidence in the future generation of drivers...

Last night I had a motorcyclist with his young daughter on the back undertaking cars on Holyrood rd using the cycle lane. He then moved to the centre of the road and overtook into the ASL.
Later I saw a car driver break a blatant red at Jock's Lodge, followed immediately by another car drifting into the ASL.
This morning I had a Vauxhall Insignia SL11 HKX overtake too close with not enough room ahead, and pull in as there was a car coming the other way down Cowgate. I filtered past, and was treated to another even closer pass. My favourite part was the "Baby on Board" sticker in the back window.Posted 10 years ago # -
Waiting in the ASL box at the Abbeyhill/ Easter Road crossroads, a large, shiny red SUV edged past me and another guy while we're held at red. He had the windows down and it was on the tip of my tongue to say 'Nice bike...'.
If that was bad enough, the SUV started inching forwards past the ASL...not just a little, but about a car-length. I had no idea that Nissan provides psychic powers with their vehicles!

So sitting at the lights on Melville Street, at the front hanging onto the railings, heading straight on to Randolph place.
Lights change and off I go to be almost knocked off by a right-hook from a metallic blue SUV. They must have obscured their view of the "Buses taxis and cycles only" message by sitting on top of it and were trying to do the same to me.

Waiting in the ASL on West Maitland Street to turn right across the tram tracks onto Torphichen Street, when a lady in a Gold coloured mini pulls up to my right. The traffic is backed-up right past Haymarket so this lady, a white van and another car seem to have missed the fact they are sitting on the wrong side of the continuous white line between where only trams are supposed to be. With the extended red light phase here, this is becoming quite common.

I don't like cycling in the centre of town that much.
Chaos at the southbound approach to South Bridge / Chambers Street this afternoon, caused by the car in the first 10 seconds of the clip. I think it had been involved in some kind of minor shunt, but the driver was just leaving it abandoned in the middle of the road, preventing other vehicles from getting past. Then, the driver walked into the road and therefore into me when the lights went green for me to go. She was more interested in taking photos of her car than making sure she wasn't about to get run over.
Then, later on a car turns right in front of me when there was clearly not enough time to do if safely on Melville Drive, in the last 9 seconds of the clip.
Looking forward to getting back on the NEPN.

"My favourite part was the "Baby on Board" sticker in the back window. " A fairly regular occurrence in my experience. Irony is lost on them. And speaking of irony...
Craigcrook Road, yesterday. Yet again a driver too impatient to wait behind me (and I'm cycling at over 20mph)cuts me up to pass me immediately before one of the traffic islands. I shout in exasperation, only to have the passenger flip me the bird out her window. I then swear (having had my life endangered) whilst telling the driver about her lousy driving, only to hear her shout, "Don't swear!" The absolute hypocrisy of it! The Weimaraner dog in the back seat looked at me, bemused.
The car then sped onto Queensferry Road at a ridiculous pace, obviously still showing no concern for safety towards others.

Heading west along west shore rd about 11:10 this morning came upon a couple riding at their own pace, two abreast. Slowed down, as did the vehicle behind me. Unfortunately a silver Mercedes driven by a middle aged male with a dog (golden Labrador?) In the back, who arrived at the back of this group clearly had an issue with our collective pace. He overtook the first car, then myself and as he overtook the couple in front of me he slowed down, sounded his horn long and hard and deliberately swerved towards and across the outside rider, before flooring the accelerator pedal and heading off. Sadly I didn't get the oaf's number. Spoke to the couple shortly after, I think I was more angry about the dick in the Merc than they were, other peoples tolerance of idiocy sometimes humbles me....

Coming down on the dreaded Bridgeside House pinchpoint on McDonald Road, I spot in the distance a blue Ford Focus moving on my side of the road at speed. I'm in primary and point at the give way sign he has. He still comes through at speed and I have to swerve and yell/swear at him.

Irn Bru delivery truck ahead of me going along Home Street to Tollcross junction. The light for Lothian Road was red, and the set of lights for Lauriston was just cycling from amber to red. The driver, evidently catching a final glipse of amber trundled on through the red light to Lothian Road, a light that had been red for 20-30 seconds. Fortunately no peds on the crossing outside what was once the Methodists (although their sequence was probably just about over, as traffic was about to be released from Brougham Place.)
Clearly just a pavlovian reaction to any sight of an amber light, triggering a need to drive on. Madness.

I wouldn't bother trying to complain to La Favorita, They simply don't care
While walking the dogs, I just witnessed a La Favorita car pull out on to the Glasgow Road and almost collide with a moped rider, who was only saved by him blaring his horn and swerving out of the way. The driver of the car had a look on his face as if to suggest he had done nothing wrong, but it was so bad it made me feel a bit sick from having witnessed it.

I had a truck with a skip tail-gate me up Cowgate this morning. He spent half of it about 1m from my back wheel, over my right shoulder. I wasn't far behind the car in front. When he did overtake he gave almost enough space (nothing to complain about). We had a chat on Fountainbridge, and he was protesting that he gave me loads of space. Didn't seem to realise I was complaining about the lack of space BEFORE the overtake.

@Kenny,
I passed that silver fiesta on Friday afternoon too. I think it had just collided with a bus, parked just outside Blackwells. Police were taking statements from the driver, but they didn't move the car. There was a tailback down to the roundabout on Leith Walk / London Road.
I got this video of a Lothian Bus almost wiping out another cyclist at the same place and same time:
Posted 10 years ago # -
To be fair to the driver of the bus the cyclist was being a little foolhardy there.
Posted 10 years ago # -
much ado about nothing, i'd say
but nonetheless:
Lothian Buses Depot Manager explained the doctrine of infallibility as follows: "Although individual bus drivers do not enjoy the prerogative of infallibility, they can nevertheless proclaim LB’s doctrine infallibly.
hope that clears things up for everyone.

Possibly, but:
the bus was in the lane for turning right at that junction and the cyclist was in the straight-on lane. Given that they made off from the traffic lights at the same time, I would have presumed the bus driver to give way as he was in the wrong lane avoiding an obstacle.
