No-one injured.
No surprise that it was a First Bus that was involved
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Maybe a set-up: the EEN comment squad clubbing together with Mr Copyshop to bribe the bus driver to highlight how one small crash at a crucial junction like Haymarket can create tailbacks across the city?
"
A passenger on the bus told The Scotsman: “The number 38 First bus I’m on just had a very near collision with a tram just before Princes Street.
“They both came up street together and driver slammed breaks on - tram is currently sandwiched to our side. No-one hurt.”

Headline: Disruption after Edinburgh tram collides with bus
Content: "It looks like the bus pulled out into the tram tracks."
So which one hit whom?
And really? "driver slammed breaks on" - what journalistic standards are we setting these days?
He did it by putting his foot on the break peddle.
"what journalistic standards are we setting these days?"
Indeed - though I suspect it was a case of copy and paste rather than transcribing a 'phone call.
Eye am sure it has two do with spell check as eye sea so much bad spelling in newspapers and magazines now. If the squiggly read line does not come up, it must be spelt correctly.
more disappointingly, some people on social media have taken the opportunity to blame cyclists…. I know you shouldn't "read the comments", but I despair sometimes…
For bad spelling?? That really is a new one!
:-) probably that too…
I have it on good authority from the Evening Chipwrapper that the tram was weaving all over the road and then suddenly pulled out infront of the bus.
As it was a FirstBus, it would not have been pulling out to the right to avoid a cyclist, so what could it have been which came out of nowhere which the driver was suddenly nobly swerving to avoid?
It was probably a tailwind which blew his exhaust plume forward and obscured his view.
Predictably, the bus driver claimed that the sun was in his eyes, and that anyway, the tram wasn't wearing hi-vis and shouldn't have been sneaking around using these quiet electric motors.
I'm looking forward to the "Trams: take care when passing this vehicle" stickers appearing on all First buses.
The driver of the car which exited Dewar Place as if heading to Gardiner's Crescent but then went east along Morrison Street, going the wrong way round the Keep Left sign.
I know I haven't posted here for a long time - I'm more of a lurker, but on Wednesday past (27th) a lady driver delivering her child to Juniper Green Primary School nearly (12") wiped me out by pulling out in front of me. I actually have Contour Roam2 video evidence, so at the suggestion of the CTC, I reported it to the police, who are coming round tonight to pick up the video and take a statement. It'll be interesting to see if anything actually comes of it, given that, thank goodness, I wasn't actually hit. 12" is as good as a mile ..
"I'm more of a lurker"
That's allowed.
Thank goodness .. it's really more of a daughter thing .. in the evenings I just haven't that much spare time .. but it is great to lurk and read the musing of those with a life ..
A big black 4-wheel drive 521 UXS who was too impatient to wait behind me up the single lane of Dean St, so just went up on the pavement to get past - still only inches away from me as it's a very narrow street. I gave him a lot of loud abuse, but he and his passenger didn't even wind the window down.
Two punishment passes from the other morning, both on the 20 section round the park:
A selection from yesterday:
Sporty white hatchback cuts close across me to turn left as I'm heading east in the cycle lane on Ferry Rd at the Morrison's junction. I give him a shout and a wave and get a variety of abusive hand signals in return.
The dozens of pavement parkers at Stew-Mel rugby ground on Ferry Rd blocking the cycle path and footway.
Driver of large SUV doing a u-turn on Newington Rd as I'm approaching going north, continues even as he sees me, causing me to slam on the brakes as I don't want to find out that the space he's left between the front of his vehicle and the parked cars is going to disappear.
Small red Mini (I think) coming up behind me veers right to avoid a bus as I'm moving off to turn right into E Preston St. Too close to me for comfort. Didn't see what had been going on behind, but plenty of hooting of horns. It then races off to the north again.
A few from yesterday while out with ERC
One woman in gilmerton (I think) screaming "SINGLE FILE" at us as we approached a red light. No idea where she was planning on going or how she thought shedbe able to pass 40 cyclists in single file at any point. I pointed out she should read the highway code.
Lotsof other close passes/overtakes into blind corners and clear bad judgements about how fast we were going.
White van driver disguised in a blue van on Hawkhill Avenue this morning: heavy traffic, so I'd pushed the button at the toucan at the top of the wigglepath up from the Restalrig Railway path in order to cross the road; after crossing when the ped/cycle light went green, I went west. Blue Van Person, who was trying to turn right up into the Butterfly, starting mouthing off out of his window about jumping lights, presumably annoyed because he'd have to wait an extra two seconds to turn right, which he still managed to do before the westbound car-traffic resumed.
Hatchback tried to overtake on approach to roundabout in Holyrood Park. I was 2m behind the car in front when she tried to get past, then pulled in when along side me.
In her defence she then stopped, and apologised.
The half-dozen drivers who seem to believe that parking half on the pavement and half in the wafer-thin cycle lane on Seafield Road is totally legitimate. You can see them here on Google Street View and you can still see them today.
@dougal Was thinking just that a short while ago as I walked along to the post box...
I had no fewer than 4 close shaves this morning. I arrived at work a trembling wreck. One of them was not captured on camera, because it was a car trying to squeeze me into the kerb from the side. But on to the ones that did get caught. They'll be in three different threads, because they related to a car, then a bicycle, then a dog (owner).
I was turning right, and this BMW decided a punishment pass was the order of the day. Stop the video when the car is beside me and I'm about to go through the speed bumps, taking note of where his car is, and you'll see we're talking no margin for error:
Lothian Bus, number [didn't note it as it will be on camera], which was going straight on west from Shandwick Place to West Maitland across the opening to Torphichen Street. Three cyclists ahead of me (all mostly ahead of the ASL, which was mostly occupied by another Lothian Bus) went through and turned right, ahead of the oncoming bus, which was trickling slowly forward over its stop line whilst flashing its lights. As I do not trust buses and know that flashing lights is not an officially-recognised signal and assumed that if it was allowed to be moving forward at that point (I'll pop along at lunchtime to check what the westbound lights say when the right-turn-into-Torphichen-Street filter is green) that it would have priority over traffic turning across it and it was a lot heavier than me and it was the only vehicle coming across from that direction, after which right-turn-from-West-Maitland traffic could proceed unhindered, I let it continue trickling through. As it did so, its driver made an unpleasant and non-politically-correct gesture to the driver of the other bus behind me, which might not have been caught on my camera but which should be on the CCTV from the bus itself.
Burnt Tree 7.5T Truck turning right off A8 Corstorphine Rd this morning by the zoo into Pinkhill and not noticing me cycling in primary in the bus lane towards them.
Fortunately, both the driver and his mate had high viz vests on (no really, they did) so I spotted them and shouted a warning whilst slamming on my brakes. They stopped before crossing my lane, but had already crossed the 'car' lane next to me. Fortunately I wasn't going that fast and my brakes are pretty good so I stopped before the junction.
Shook me up a bit and took a while to compose myself enough to explain to them how much that scared me and that having just dropped off my kids I really wanted to be able to pick them up.
Later, at Drumbrae Roundabout I had a car (driver) get bored with queuing in their lane and decided to nip into my lane while I was coming alongside her.
I blame myself for my quip about being in stealth mode earlier in the week.
