Comiston Road warning

This forum knows about the failings of the A702 (Morningside/Comiston Roads etc.)

Safe speedy progress involves careful observation and a certain amount of dancing - not sitting too firmly on the saddle.

Today I was proceeding northwards at a fairly modest pace between Craiglea Drive and Comiston Gardens.

I was lulled into a false sense of security by newish looking bit of black tarmac. Of course it should be green - it's in the middle of a bus lane - but This IS Edinburgh...

Maybe that's why it's got a severe case of depression.

More deeply depressed than might be obvious from the photo.

    nasty.
I had a near off on the tarmac here the other day

    http://g.co/maps/edxy

where the road narrows(heading into town)
the buses have caused the tarmac to ripple up and i didnt see it as the rain had made it look smooth(well CEC smooth)

There's some very uneven paving on Polwarth terrace, heading into the intersection with Gillsland, in front of the hotel being turned into housing.

We very nearly came off as we were heading off to Cramond Saturday. Closest I have come to falling off in motion in traffic since cycling with kids. (came off very badly 20-odd years ago in similar circs. still have the gravel scars, I think...)

Have you reported it to the council? They should get back to the contractors who layed it to finish the job.

Wow. I always thought Clarence was a make-believe lion, to amuse the kids. Didn't realise he actually existed, never mind answered emails and everything.

O.T. but at back of my mind Clarence was at one time an acronym. Council Lighting and Roads something something something? Glasgow had "Ralf" the terrier ("Road and Lighting Faults")

With big orange and yellow cartoon lions on all the main roads into town and radio jingles on Forth to boot ("call clarence, oh-eight-hundred, twenty-three, twenty-three, twenty-three")

Still a big pothole, getting bigger near bottom of Comiston Road. Will @Edinburgh_CC fix it before it causes a cyclist to have an accident?

@ch, I very nearly hit that depression on my small-wheeled bike on Saturday.

There's also an enormous car tyre-swallowing bombhole on the Longstone end of Inglis Green Road. I'll photo' it on my way home and report it.

I used to work on the same floor of the same building as CLARENCE. I was very disappointed to learn that the CLARENCE staff don't have to wear a lion costume while they take calls.

...car tyre-swallowing bombhole on the Longstone end of Inglis Green Road

This has now been filled in. It's not surfaced or sealed, so I give it about a fortnight before the buses have excavated it again.

Still not fixed, but looks like it's been looked into -

looks like it's been looked into

You mean "looked into" as in some men came round, dug a hole, looked into it, scratcher their heads and then filled it in againd

I've been watching the Comiston pothole most days. They reduced the barriers to three at one point, then back to four and covered it with the plywood. It does look as though they've excavated down a layer or two.

And of my Longstone pothole, guess what? It's a crater again! (and full of rain today)

"They reduced the barriers to three at one point"

I suspect that wasn't 'official' - though no idea what the point was.

Longstone Crater - who did you report it too?
