Tonight I spotted an unfolded Brompton with back wheel chained to front wheel and railing at Haymarket. I couldn't see the point in that? If it folds, fold it and take it inside? If it doesn't fold leave it outside? THe rider would have spent much longer securing it than folding it and taking it with hm/her? Maybe he/she was refused entry on the bus and didn't have the carrier bag?

Beats me, that seems to be ignoring the unique selling proposition of the machine.

I don't get hassle taking them anywhere and usually people are more than happy to help with cloakrooms or finding a space for it.

They are quite rare in the west whereas, when I was i the mysterious east last June, I saw about half a dozen between Waverley and the airport. Perhaps the higher incidence has engendered resistance to them although I have yet to come across that in England where they can be very common.

when I was thinking about a folder (approx nine years ago) one reason I was put off was that LRT wouldn't let you on the bus with them (but putting them in the carrier would have solved that). Individual drivers would I am sure. But come to think of it, I used the bus for a long time and never saw a folding bike.,

I saw that one too, and had thoughts on similar lines.

I've seen a few locked up Bromptons in Edinburgh over the last few years; I'm sure there was one in Marchmont a few weeks ago.
I also keep seeing bromptons being ridden by people wearing rucksacks, and I used to keep seeing a chap cycling out on the Glasgow Road on his Brompton, wearing Lycra.
None of this seems quite 'correct' where Bromptons are involved.

There's one that is 'secured' with a lock I wouldn't use for a bike a 1/10th of the value.

Wouldn't last five minutes in London.

I usually ride to school in shorts and a t-shirt. If I'm going more than 20 miles I'd think about the lycra but the last time I did that a lot I was going from Airdrie to Maryhill everyday.

One of mine doesn't have a luggage block on the front so I sometimes carry a rucksack with that one. That being the superlight model I usually just have a pump vecroed onto the handlebars and a spare tube in my pocket.

I used to worry about the effect of vibration on a laptop in the Brompton luggage but it seems to be OK.

Some people find the front luggage footery if they are getting on and off a lot so ruck sack can be simpler for that.

The only time I have locked one is on the early morning train from Poole to Southampton where I couldn't see it from the seating area and I didn't want to stand in the bike area for the whole trip. Even there I used an Abus Granite and secured it to the floor.
