It would seem I have now cycled to enough meetings etc that most work colleagues associated me with a bicycle. Thus arriving in Glasgow for a meeting colleagues will ask me Did you cycle through? I do have a quarterly meeting in Stirling that starts at 10 am and I keep saying if I get up at 6 a.m. I could cycle thru. I would go over Forth Bridge and round coast - did this before but there was 1 mile of the sustrans route that was mud path so there is a tweak needed. Anyhoo, I do sometimes take my bike to the pub (i don't drink alcohol on these occasions). What is the stupidest place anyone has taken a non-folding bike (I exempt folders as we know they can go anywhere). I have a dream of flying to Heathrow and just cycling out of the place - but there would be an issue with the carrycase. I have cycled through Gatwick as it is on the Sustrans London to Brighton route.

I took my longest bike into a youth hostel in the summer. The bike is 8 feet long and the cycle parking was on the 5th floor, along a narrow corridor. The ceiling of the 'elevator' was slightly less than 8 feet from its floor. :-D

    Hillend Ski-Centre by tandem.

My daughter was around 12 and wanted me to go ski-ing. On the bus it takes 45 mins plus walk and waiting times. So around an hour.

On the bike it took 25 mins out plus another ten up the very steep access road.

We then skied for two hours.

I've cycled other 'unusual' places too...

The first time I took a trike on the Brodick ferry wasn't a clever moment... it hadn't occurred to me in advance that it stands up on its own and would roll around the car deck. Luckily CalMac had some ropes hanging from the side of the deck so I tied it up.

In 1991 I stashed a £900 racing bike inside a friend's mini. The bike was probably worth at least four times as much as the car. I used to keep it upstairs in my bedroom. It used up most of the floor space.

...cycled to Schiphol Airport 3 times now. Brought bikes back twice. (Also cycled from Birmingham International station - that's a lot more unusual)

Shop owner in Amsterdam lives 4 miles - can see control tower. Course there are cycle paths the whole way but as we had time we did a little tour. Amy rode on pannier rack of owners 'hack' bike.

Main cycle approach to Schiphol involves cycling under one runway - so big downhill and up. At airport itself it's faster to use bus lanes - which is ok as long as there are no buses about!
In at back door and on moving walkways. Actually very easy as they expect bikes of course.

Main bike users are airport workers.

You can see a low powered scooter on bike track in pic.
Challenge Mistral in pic was sold last year so now in Wales.

We don't fly often - not at all last year.
