The Princes Street Missed Opportunity

  1. Though it seems most are ignoring the signs, you do have to wonder why they don't technically allow cyclists to use this bit of Princes Street.

    It's an 'emergency' lane. Though today it was also blocked off as railings were moved to allow a works truck to deposit a load. I'm pretty certain that's more difficult to move out of the way of an ambulance than a bike...

    It's RED. That means it's extra legal. Or so they probably think.

    All these diversions are likely to have been established by a temporary traffic regulation order (TTRO). If this is the case and it restricts cycling on Princes Street then this sign will be correct.

    I can't find a copy of the TTRO, so can't verify whether this is the case. Someone at CEC should be able to verify this.
