Left on school run at same time as 3 sets of neighbours, 2 of whom usually walk/cycle but took the car today, while third, who usually walk but sometimes car were on bike (but were going the wrong way...going back home for car? not sure).

However, traffic around school was such that I'm pretty sure my daughter got into school well before the other kids (unless Recombodna threw his out of still moving van...)!

    Fitter but wetter?

Or are you a parent prepared to spend less than the price of a car on waterproofs??

I was late away today so took the motorised bicycle (45min as opposed to 1hr 15 when I'm multi-modal).

A very useful reminder that people don't (always) drive like muppets around us because we are on bicycles, most of them drive like that because they are thoughtless/rude/inconsiderate incompetents who appear to lack the spatial awareness/car control/mental attitude/imagination to work out the consequences of their actions etc that should be required to be trusted with a pedal car far less half a ton of 80mph metal. (in my professional opinion, the unprofessional opinion is much more colourful...)

That reminds me, one of the reasons I ride a bicycle to work is that I can get onto the canal/old railway etc and relaaaaaax lol

(edited for mong spelling mid rant!)

Think we were both dry, except for faces & glasses. She has full waterproofs and wellies and looks very cute in them.

@SRD - Good for you! We don't let rain put us off either, unless by some chance we leave the house ill-equipped for the conditions. My son has a bright yellow cycling rain cape plus black waterproof trousers. This combination keeps just about anything out. If he has wellies on then his feet are dry too.

All fine for short trips, but on longer journeys the chilling effect of the wet can be a problem. We tried to cross Edinburgh on a very wet day in June, had to give up at the Meadows and visit the Pavilion cafe instead. Wet feet and hands became very cold, even though the air temperature was mild. Son had no waterproof overshoes, and his fleece gloves left at home due to an oversight. Well we didn't really expect it to keep pouring down all day...

I find that the promise of hot chocolate on arrival usually deals with any unhappiness - we have surprisingly good memories of all getting home soaking wet & cold, to share hot showers, fluffy bathrobes and hot chocolate.
