Well it looks like the weather has arrived. Stav Danaos was doing the forecast this morning and suggested snow on higher ground, from Aviemore to the borders. I cycled in layers and a fleece this morning but I think I might be resorting to Goretex on the way home!

Looks like the wind dies down later on... Small mercies.

Yes I elected to take the bus today. Its was breezy but dry and a lovely sunny morning when I set off from Spagety Bay. I'm just waiting for winter to arrive so the wond will drop and I can do some more riding. Summer and Winter here seam nice with Spring and Autumn being windy and rainy.

Hmm, I rode in a t-shirt having not checked the weather and enjoyed a lovely blue sky.

    Not looking so clever now!

I believe this is fine day for 'testing' one's Aldi waterproof cycling trousers.
I just wish my specialized shoes weren't large sponges designed to collect as much water as possible...

Mabs, if you can get to a bike shop I have Endura Neoprene overshoes which are great for keeping your feet dry. Only 20 pounds, mine have lasted a full season.

I had a gorgeous nursery run in the wind this morning with a cheery coxwean this morning.

Tough wind on the big straight from haymarket though! The childseat-airbrake and the fact stockbridge feels about 100m below sealevel is doing wonders for my thighs.

The weather really started packing up as I headed towards Maybury, but just made it afore the monsoon.

My feet _very_ wet, the rest of me fine. Trousers holding up well. We're off north tomorrow (scotrail permitting). Have packed lots of fleece into the panniers!!

Very similar to Shandwick Pl/ Torphicen Street today.
Cheap trousers from Aldi did well and jacket from sports direct seamed ok too. I just wish the arms were longer.

  12. Hmmm. Only dry-weather clothes with me. And probably working late as well. Maybe it will have all passed by the time I get out...

Anth, just wait until after 20:00. Rain should be off by then... :)

I was out in the heavy rain late morning, full waterproofs on. Slightly wet feet and gloves but otherwise fine. Not terribly cold so bearable. Enjoying cruising past huge traffic jams in town caused by the "oh no it's raining, better take the car in today" effect.

By lunchtime the rain had slackened off a bit, so I was spared the worst of it on a second outing, but now looks heavy again.

Could be worse, it might be freezing wind, hailstones and sleet!

Well timed work at home day here, although I had to run a few errands at lunch time on the bike. Limited the waterproofs to a jacket thinking, 'how bad can it be'. Got wet.

yr.no reckons dry by six. I need to go out at five. Bah.

    Floods return to Balcarres Street

A collegue here blames Balcarres Street on the Cooncil not clearing the drains properly. He says he cycles this street mosts days and says its always wet through. Apparently the water runs down from Fairmile head and in fron Morningside Clock.
I did wonder when I looked at the pictures again as Balcarres Street is above the railway line!

What could possibly go wrong? ; - )

Actually Scotrail doesn't really 'do' bad weather. Flooding could be a problem. You should get to Perth though ; - ) Follow NCN7 to Luncarty! Then Ballathie to Blairgowrie

Hoping it all clears by time you make it.

Best to keep an eye on JourneyCheck for live updates on rail services.

    Currently showing:

"Line problem between Edinburgh and Inverkeithing. Train services between Edinburgh and Inverkeithing are being disrupted due to signalling problems. "

Not good if heading to Perth from Edinburgh... May be sorted by tomorrow, mind.

@SRD - I left Aviemore today it was zero degrees, snow on top of the Cairngorms, but they want it to snow up that way.

they want it to snow up that way.

well, so do we, in principle. but right now I want to know whether i'll be okay with layers of fleece and waterproof or if i need to dig out my winter jacket (&etc). have packed snow suit for baby and snowsuit jacket for big girl, but not her snow trousers....

    the stress............

@SRD. Snow trousers should be water proofs so if we were going I'd take then for our two. You can always unzip the snow jacket but if your cold without it you'll wish you brought it. But then If your on a cycle holiday lots of layers to peel off as you need would be better than one thick jacket. How much do you plan to stand around (whilst they play at the swings) and how much time do you plan to spend exercising?

Hope you have a loverly break, I love Aviemore.
