Tonight they might do the Helios tandem. Channel 5 programme at 8pm.

So... reckon no-one stayed the course then? The trick is to switch down the sound...;-)

All a bit frantic with destruction of a lot of mobile phones and two washing machines.

Last challenge was a race between first choice Co-motion tandem and the Helios.

The Circe bike won the race and looked quite useful although it was strictly for fun and not a review.

Other 'two person' bikes did appear including a Pino tandem .

Years ago when wifi was unusual I complained to the presenter of the gadget show about an inaccuracy in their piece. His reply said that they weren't aiming the show at people who knew about these things.

Now in a way that might be fair enough but I didn't see it as a great excuse for getting things wrong.

That was the only episode I ever watched so I don't know if it has changed.

  7. Every time I saw them doing a cycling piece, and therefore I knew about the subject, there were glaring errors about things, and it did make me wonder if everything they cover is a bit like that.

I quite liked the show right up until they decided that three presenters weren't enough. Otis wasn't too bad an addition, but the new blonde girl, I just don't see the point.

I watched an episode of TGS from August just yesterday, the one when they tested the Jango Flik, Montague/Swissbike and Giant Halfway folding bikes. Flik was 'a bit bendy', Swissbike was 'big and fast', and the Halfway was 'quite good'. I watched the rest of the programme at 16x speed since I couldn't stand the frantic presentation (and had better things to do with 45 minutes). I haven't seen yesterday's TGS yet but I'm expecting more of the same!

I agree with Anth. I think they have far too many presenters. In this age of auserity (sp??) they should be cutting down not scaling up!!

Sadly the Gadget Show has become for technology what Top Gear is to cars: a gadget-themed presenter-centric entertainment froth. As a result it's no longer of any use as a source of information, as you all seem to have confirmed.

It's a pity there doesn't seem to be a place in mainstream TV for factual information of the type both shows used to provide. I learned more about bikes from this year's TdF coverage than all of the GS bike bits put together...

It's 'infotainment' with the info missing...

I heard from Velo Vision that some other companies had been invited to get their bikes over to TGS. Most of course were never ridden.

When I spoke with them they sounded like they were actually going to look at 'two people' bikes in detail.
But then again the format is rush rush - bit worrying if you're using a nail gun, as they were at one point!

Oh well - that'll be bikes on TV covered for 2011 then.

  12. I had a production company vaguely interested in a 'Bike Show' a couple of years back. They went cool on the idea though (bikes are too niche apparently), but I'm putting together various pitches again to give it another whirl.

The dream team of me, Jon Snow and Vicky Pendleton as a presenting crew. What could possibly go wrong?
