THE axing of trees along a picturesque stretch of river to allow flood defences has been halted amid concerns a council did not have planning permission to do so.

This is only a temporary measure then? Once they have the planning permission granted presumably they will go ahead and fell the trees in any case regardless of any protest. Bah!! This is what they did on the Braidburn defences in Inch Park, I think they now realise they made a mistake...too late. This sort of thing I find really, really depressing. In fact, it seems to me that CEC just indiscriminately cut down trees if they are in the way of what they perceive to be progress. Let's see what happens to the listed trees on the land at Edmonstone where Edmonstone house used to be, there are 22 listed, one of which is an absolutely enormous conifer and must be hundreds of years old.
