He said voicemail interception had been easy to do and that journalists would use it to "pry on things". "I don't think they necessarily thought of it as any worse - certainly at the beginning - than driving at 35mph in a 30mph zone."

We didn't think breaking the law was any more serious than breaking the law.

Already penned an outraged email to the IAM this morning about an article which mentioned 80mph as "technically illegal".

    Both barrels...

About an hour later got a reply thanking me for my valid comment and saying it had been passed on to the editor, (and mentioning a detail about my membership which I hadn't given, so they looked me up!) I shall read next months with interest!

  5. If I was to steal something of low value like a Mars Bar do you think I'd get away with the argument that I was an 'otherwise law-abiding shopper'...?

Or how about "it's only technically stealing as the anti-shoplifting laws are widely disregarded"...

  7. I love that one - the speed limits should be increased to 80 on motorways because everyone goes at that speed anyway, so it's just legalising common practice.

Getting boozed up and causing a breach of the peace at weekends is common practice now...
