  1. Although saying he's a TdF cyclist would rule out Hoy. Boardman has been getting a bit more active in promoting cycling I think. Probably just someone the BBC could grab for Rent-a-Quote.

It's a pity Calton Hill really needs both hands tightly gripping the bars as it would prevent the bringing of the nice coffee from the police box kiosk on Cathedral Lane.

@wingpig, you don't have a coffee cup holder on the handlebars? Even Joe from the Kickstand Cyclery has one these days!

I'll be on a black hybrid with reddish orange bike seat on the back carrying a little girl. Shouldn't be too difficult to spot.

I'll be wearing a pink dress which will not look anything like as "chic" as it sounds..

    Most likely.

Thinking about bringing the mobile picnic table with some lunch.

  6. That would be superb!

I wonder what the police presence will be like? I think in many eyes these days 'climate protest' = anarchists = riots and windows smashed and burning buildings.

There's "just" time to get lycrad up, jump on the bike, sprint across town, hang around for 5 minutes then jump back on the bike the other direction and make it back to the Gyle...

Will see how my morning goes.

Planning on being there, as this is one of the rare occasions when I have my bike in at work (usually walk). Green jacket, beige trousers, green single speed, white bar tape, glasses :D.

I'll be there with show in tow. Silver recumbent and trailer, so obviously invisible.

Afterwards, on the mile. No point doing it for cyclists, everyone knows they are too poor to get a car so will have no money left over for street entertainment ;)

Work done, dog walked, rear hub adjusted, just about time to set off.

Yeah, thinking I might just pop my jacket on and hop on train at Edinburgh Park, can't beat the 8 minutes it takes to get into Waverley.

Train operator ScotRail has launched a new – free - mobile phone app that provides ‘real time’ train running information throughout the UK combined with an easy ticket purchase option.

The ScotRail app is the only one in the UK to offer this combined functionality free of charge.

The app works across smartphone and ‘everyday’ handsets including iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

  22. Trying to time it to maximise time there with stuff actually happening. Reckon get changed at quarter to. Should be at the bike by about 7 or 8 minutes to, and with a following wind get there for about bang on 1.

All timings subject to change. Of course. But at least the conference call is done.

  24. I tihnk that was my tally (except crowriver as I have no idea what he looks like), oh and kaputnik... ;)

Good turnout overall today - maybe 250 or so people?

Had to canter back to the office though - I think the route I took was quickest back as I got green lights almost all the way after turning up the Bridges (and one punishment pass from one of those sports coupe Peugeots).

I found it was quicker to get off bike and push at the horrible narrowing of Princes St outside Waverley Steps where there's currently a single lane contraflow thing. There was an LGV delivering to the Waverley Steps work, which held everything up by having to go through the contraflow then reverse back into the compound.

I put it conservatively at 150-200, but then I wasn't really counting. I think it was probably more like 250-300. (as my lower estimate would put the CCE contingent as 10% of crowd and it was definitely much more than that)

A good turnout considering the time of day and the somewhat chilly breeze.

    Spotted:
    Kaputnik
    Alison Johnstone MSP
    Lots of Spokes people.
'Gandalf', an old hippy who I know from the Forest Cafe (RIP).
Some numptie called Keith Brown who was very patronising and tried to palm us off with a promise to look down the side of his couch (and maybe John Swinney's couch, but he can't guarantee that) to see if he couldn't find a few extra pennies to add to our pocket money.

I was in the mood to heckle the Minister, and did. I also enjoyed a cup of steaming hot tea from my flask, attached to frame with a Bike Buddy courtesy of Kaputnik: I knew it would come in handy!

I had to leave after half an hour as my daughter was getting cold and sleepy. Sorry I didn't come to say hello, CCE posse. I was stuck at the east end of the big photo opportunity huddle, with folk from the Green party, Spokes and Critical Mass. I did try to make it up to your end but the police were telling cyclists to get off the road, as some (largely invisible) traffic was apparently trying to get past.

Hopefully catch some of you at PY on Friday if I manage to get out of bed in time...

I gave up waiting to go along PS and went up North Bridge instead. Anth had evidently made the right before the lights but the bloke he'd been chatting to on the knobbled bouncer who'd been doing daft swervey pretendy-mountain stuff down Waterloo Place was there with a few others in the ASZ. Didn't like the look of the oncoming traffic so went left then Cowgate.
Despite my colleagues' initial illegal move the ride there was nice (albeit short) due to the larger-than-usual amount of cyclists about. It was particularly nice being able to sandwich a car between bikes heading up from the PS/NB lights.

Anyone spot a university id card in a clear plastic bag? I fear I may have dropped it when taking my gloves out of my pocket. On the other hand, I may have left it at home.

Nice to see everyone by the way. My second protest attended in my life, the first being a month or two ago. Getting militent in my old age.

It was "interesting" riding through town - I've not done this before. Helps to have a turn of speed but also to be well positioned, aware and patient.

Concern over possible cuts to cycling promotion cash

Tom Ballantine of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland said: "The decision to cut funding to support low carbon transport measures such as active travel is deeply worrying.

"A number of parliamentary committees have echoed our concerns that the budget and spending review is not aligned with Scotland's climate change ambitions.

"The government must now step up and fully fund all of the measures set out in its own plans to meet our climate change targets."

But the Scottish government has defended its record on investment in cycling and walking.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "We've spent more than £80m on active and sustainable travel since 2007. We have substantially expanded the cycle networks, for example.

"There is no question that we would like to spend more but we have a 36% cut to our capital budget and we have to live within the resources that we have."

Agree with Crowriver that Keith Brown's "sorry we're all out of small change for cycling(but not for massive bridges or motorway extensions)" spiel was patronising and missed the point to say the least. He didn't answer the "and how did you get here" heckle. He did turn up I suppose. Better than nothing? Or just taking the photo op?

P.S. look out for an "ON YER BIKE" spelled out with small red "warning sign" placard photo. You may or may not recognise most of the protagonists.
