Got an answer (from tie) to a previous post "What are bikes meant to do?" about the one-way closure of West Maitland Street.
"As you note in your message the actual work is actually in West Maitland Street and the obstruction is just to westbound traffic. Hence to get buses and general traffic through it is necessary to route them up Lothian Road along the West approach and back along the Morrison Link. Although not an immediate choice for cyclists they are not precluded from following this route as the traffic ban on cycles starts immediately to the west of the Morrison Link.
That said Cyclists can continue along through Shandwick Place and only divert more locally to get past the roadworks. Depending on the cyclist this may mean dismounting to use the footpath or using a parallel route to either the north or south.
For Example:
To the north use Queensferry Street, Melville Street, Bishop's Walk (past the Cathedral) and Palmerston Place; or
To the South use Rutland St, Canning Street and Dewar Place to Morrison St.
Tie have attempted to work with the council to ensure that major works obstructions are appropriately advised, however it is not expected that cycle alternative routes be signposted as tram work signage is already considerable and there is a risk of creating additional confusion.
Tie will continue to work with Council to ensure that relevant information can be posted on their Cycle Page."
I didn't actually realise that bikes weren't banned between Canning Street and Morrison Link. DON'T FANCY IT!!
