    there wont be CCTV there
    its a fairly empty spot
talking to my other half I may have 'lost' some time
don't know if i was dazed or out but it seems i was away from home for longer than i thought before i brought the bike back

Custard, did the docs at the hospital check you for signs of concussion? Have you felt any dizziness or difficulty standing up? If so, I'd get back there and ask them to check you over again.

Really sorry to hear about your accident. I sometimes cut through that way but not for the last month or so. Wishing you a speedy rcovery.

Hi Custard, should you wish to pursue any sort of legal action against the council please feel free to use my photos if you think they would help your case. The less sober members of public occupying A&E when you went in had probably been there for a considerable length of time if that is any consolation. Sad to say that is what it is like on a daily basis very busy and full of people with drink related injuries or drink fuelled fighting injuries. Also get a fair number of work/trades related injuries in the mornings. At least you have to be seen within four hours now, because I think waits did use to be longer, and weekends were never, ever a good time.

For whatever reason I thought I had read this thread and it was just (sadly) another "watch out for this piece of road sort of thread. I didn't realise what this piece of p**s-poor roadbuilding and maintenance had done to somebody and their bike.

As all the others have expressed - my condolences and wish you the speediest of recoveries. Liz's second shot says it all for me - the way it has caught light emphasises how deep this hole is. The bus up ahead emphasises what it is that causes these holes to baloon to cyclist-swallowing proportions when the council don't do their job and repair them and the location a metre out from the kerb shows exactly WHY you should be in - and should not be forced to be in any other road position than primary. I was mourning the loss of a £24.99 tyre earlier in the week that was under a month old and had seemed to fall apart after an encounter with a pothole at foot of Ardmillan Terrace. £24.99 buys a new tyre. You're looking at repairs to bike, the laid up time off work and - hopefully the none too serious - dent in your confidence and happiness on the road.

Alas I don't think anything will ever come of trying to chase down the taxi cab or its details... Just another rubbish "professional" driver who feels they have some right to bully others on the road.

I wish you mend well, I wish you your Christmas bonus (if not, add that to your shopping list from the council) and I wish you back on the bike as soon as is possible.

It also goes to show how important it is to stay vigilant and report the heck out of Edinburgh's crumbling roads.

I think the problem is buses + weather. London has literally tonnes of traffic, buses and lorries included, yet the tarmac in much of the city (City?) is in a far better state. Even the mended bits are mended properly. Perhaps frost heave just isn't a problem so far south.

    I live! surgery went fine

  16. Only just caught up with this - glad to hear the surgery went well! Blinkin' awful situation to have landed (if you'll pardon the pun) in. And damned awful driving/common decency from the taxi driver (not sure why I'm surprised).

    Heal well!

Ooyah! Glad No.2 daughter wasn't around when I spied that.

You are going to have a really big scar on your shoulder. Hopefully all the stuff underneath will heal up properly. Best of luck with the recovery, and hope it doesn't sting too much.

I think you would take the 2011 CCE Award for nastiest injury of the year with that. You and Anth can show off your scars when you meet up. Get well soon.

    Posted 12 years ago #
  23. My scar is nowhere near as visible as it used to be. Which is very disappointing...

    what was yours Anth?

  25. Shattered my elbow coming off the bike at cycle speedway. Had to be opened up to put plates on the bones top and bottom and replace the bit that broke off. Pins and wires galore.

Got a pic somewhere of the staples. Stunned I can straighten my arm to only about 10-15 degrees off perfectly straight.

That is a work of grisly art, custard. Good show!

Since we're all now round a table below decks in Quinn's Orca in Jaws, this is Uberuce Vs Gatepost in a bicycle accident:

(Taken many years ago when I was vastly less fuzzy than today)
