...and it's for a burger chain.

    Do I:

    a) Laugh
    2) Cry
Thirdly) Watch even less telly than I already do?

What was the one where huge loads of cyclists were following (a supposedly) low emission car?

Ah, that video's soundtrack is out of sync and misses the brilliant punchline. Here's another version with the final line intact. Classic.

    it's for a burger chain.

    Ah, now seen this.

Nicely inclusive, tandem, trailers (load and child), lidded and non-lidded, trike. Anyone spot a recumbent?

Just found it on YouTube, on freeze frame nothing "stranger" than the upright trike...

I saw a (I think) McDonalds poster in a bus shelter on Dundee Street this afternoon advertising some sort of processed chicken and breadcrumb snack. Advert appeared to be bauble on a Christmas tree featuring Santa riding a bicycle.

No, I didn't understand it either.

Yellow Pages ad, 1983. Judging by the caution lines the kid goes the wrong way up the street.

And let's not forget the Queen poster.

There was something on a television the other day which looked to be for either an insurance or mortgage provider which featured (not connected to the main plot theme of the advertisment) the chief 'customer' protagonist's pretend advert daughter wheeling a bike out of shot in the background.

Both the McD*****s ad and the Bl******y ad seem to be cashing in on the Critical Mass / flashmob ride meme...

To be honest I don't see what either has to do with cycling apart from "ooh, look at these cool people, wouldn't you like to be cool like them too? Here, have a burger. And buy this phone while you're at it. You want to be cool, don't you?"

    Posted 12 years ago #
  14. Basically it's an example of the fact that cycling is becoming more 'mainstream' and is in that 'cool' phase before it simply becomes 'normal'. Different enough to stand out in advertising; widespread enough to liked.

It shows that we are getting there, slowly but surely.

And at least the Mickey D riders will then ride off the pointless tasteless fatty calories.

(it has been about 9 years since my last McD/BK/KFC experience...)

Not an advert and I can't find the Cyling TV thread but Gadget Man just now has a Pino-type semirecumbent on it.

Not just Pino-type, but Hase Pino itself...

Top end, judging by the price!

Nice little thread this one, I am resurrecting as the show Unforgotten is back and one of the four potential murderers cycles a rather sweet bike with porter rack (no luggage) and white wall tyres around cambridge.

The corpse is quite gruesome but there might be a slight tweak of the formula. On STV catch up

    Surprised no-one's mentioned this one:

"Britain's favourite TV ad" according to none other than Carlton Reid, apparently. Pity the music has nothing to do with cycling or indeed Britain (or bread, for that matter).

@stubbsie, search Hominem Vis and see if anything comes up?

Actually so ingrained in my psyche that if I ever see a non sliced wholemeal loaf with HOVIS on the side I will instantly buy it.

    I love a bakery

If I ever get back t9 Dublin I am go8ng on a pilgrimage to the Cremore bakery. Fab old scotch plain loves don’t tell them. But batch not slice.

@gembo: Thanks, interesting (note that Wiki says it's "hominis vis"). It also says that the inventor of Hovis as in the milling process is buried in Highgate Cemetery. Back in the early 1980s I used to live round the corner from there. I did once visit it in order to check out Karl Marx' last resting place. I satisfied myself that it was indeed there, but the place as a whole didn't have a comfortable feel for me so I didn't explore any further.

Ah yes I have been fallacious

    However this brings me to

Argumentum ad hominem the favoured tactic of Cooooslor Vebnber. Straw man, fallacy, safety measures are dangerous etc

I somehow ended up voicing a "Yorkshire Hovis delivery boy" in a BBC local radio dramatisation in the 90's.

Can't for the life of me what it was about but I do have a strong memory of being aged about 10 or 11 and having knowing with absolute certainty that I my Yorkshire accent was terrible. I take this opportunity to apologise to the people of Yorkshire. The situation haunts my dreams.
