"I was bliiiinded, bliiinded by the light.." Who sang that?

Anyway, it's the new Get Out Of Jail Free card for dangerous drivers who kill cyclists.

CTC spotted not only the recent letting off of a teenage killer (see threads passim), but also this ongoing case where a woman used exactly the same excuse when questioned by police for killing an experienced cyclist. Doing 50+mph when you can't see ahead of you due to low sun? Really exemplary driving, not at all dangerous and of course it could not possibly be the fault of the driver...

I feel pretty vulnerable in the winter sun, I know they all have visors but.. hell they don't see you at the best of times!

Comiston Road is pretty vicious for surface glare, and while the driving going uphill(into the sun) is slower, the driving going north really isn't.

Manfred Mann did the song... The prosecution had a driver who had reduced their speed because visibility was almost "zero", she admitted to changing up to fifth gear and was therefore driving excessively fast for the light conditions....what a stupid woman, what is more she should not have been so close the the edge of the road assuming that Mr Stubbs was cycling the average 2 - 3 ft away from the edge/kerb. She really did not see him at all in truth I would say given the other witnesses statement about visibility at the time.

be interesting to see the sentence

They haven't got a verdict yet, never mind a sentence. Presumably CTC will be watching this case like hawks. Reassuring to see that prosecution are doing their job properly, and it has been reported quite well.

She'll probably get off with fine/community service and driving ban. They don't put pregnant women in prison unless they've murdered someone. Oh, wait...

The song was written and originally performed by Bruce Springsteen on the "Asbury Park" album. Manfred Manns Earthband covered that and then two other tracks from the same album......
