Sadly not, although it's my neck of the woods (turn left from the foot of the walk) so I'd be interested in a reg...
Hope they didn't go to the police station down Constitution St., I reported a bit of dangerous driving there (with footage) and never heard anything afterwards - at all.

One good thing about incidents on Leith Walk - there are nearly always witnesses/people to help out. Hope they pursue this with police.

That is disgusting. Not just the attack but the Police attitude. I too hope they persue it and if they still refuse to do anything I would suggest writing to their MSP to put the wind up them.

Have sent this into LBP twitter to let them know Edinburgh cyclist are watching this with interest.

"@DaveCrampton Thanks Dave, LBP are aware of this incident and enquiries are ongoing into the matter."

That's utterly shocking. Thankfully there are witnesses around and people decent enough to step in and ask WTF is going on and with the calm head to write down the number plate of the offender.
As for the Police receptionist? My limited experience of them was quite similar - "so you're saying you were almost knocked off your bike, but there wasn't actually an accident? So what exactly are you trying to report?"
I know it's not nice - but the fact there's actually been contact between the van and the cyclist should help her case. I was told when the bus on the Mound that drove at me and nearly ended my life that there wasn't a huge amount they could do if there hadn't "been an accident" (i.e. there hadn't been any contact), despite being run off the road onto the pavement and despite there being witnesses (and CCTV from the bus).

"despite being run off the road onto the pavement and despite there being witnesses (and CCTV from the bus)."
Sounds like Dangerous Driving to me.
Or maybe 'just' Careless.

@chdot - Lothian Buses were happy to take it seriously. L&B didn't even follow up.

"there wasn't a huge amount they could do if there hadn't "been an accident""
If anyone ever says that to me I'm going to tell them I'm off out to shoot a gun at someone but miss them by inches and as if they'll let me off with that on the same basis...

FFS, it's assault, surely? You don't have to hit someone to assault them, you just have to make them scared.

I once reported a car from which someone had thrown a (plastic) bottle at me (and missed), while I was being a good citizen and clearing a fallen branch off a road. The only witnesses were others in the car but the Police investigated, found the car's keeper was known to them, and interviewed them. Although there wasn't anyone else to witness the attempted assault(?), the Police were able to get one of the passengers a Fixed Penalty Notice for littering! So it can be worth reporting even relatively trivial incidents.
Much longer ago a van driver deliberately ran into the back of my bike twice while I was cycling in Princes St.. There was an independent witness, and I gave the Police the number plate (not just the number, the actual plate - half had fallen off and I pulled the other half off the van) but he had driven off after I moved out of his way (there was a big queue of buses behind him by then) and the Police later said they couldn't trace him. So sometimes some Police do seem to need encouraged to make more of an effort.
