    Paint has appeared at Kilgraston/Beaufort/Marchmont/Strathearn.

But only white, and not for marking the lead-in lane.

    Part of Marchmont Road too.

Maybe it's to do with the (coming) 20mph areas.

    When were these last re-painted??

What it looked like in 2009 -

"How many emails have I sent Gordon mackenzie about that intersection???"

Is there a prize if someone gets the right answer?

    I say 19.

BUT nothing has been done to the intersection...

Some redesign would make such a huge difference, but imagine the consultation, the community council, the argby-bargy (says a voice over my shoulder)...

"but imagine the consultation" Not everything requires consultation.

"the community council" - it's not your local one...

Perhaps whilst they are at it, they could sort out all of the potholes, sunken sivers, etc., around this junction and on Kilgraston Road.

Liz, agreed - I hit that junction approx 90 seconds after leaving my house for work - at least I know how to avoid the worst bits but it is brutal.

Perhaps we can add it to the list of Clarenced and pending? Sure it is on my list already but got bored telling them.

When there's something strange in the neighbourhood, who ya gonna call?

I am prompted to report a really dangerous one in Juni Green now.

Also last track on rolling stones album between the buttons is called Something Happened....
First credited track with Keith singing (he is as good as jagger on vocals, better than wyman on bass)

    Ends with jagger speaking

".....if you're out tonight and you're on your bike, remember to wear white..."

They seem to be on a roll, Holy Corner and Morningside/Comiston junction as well - more than one crew too!

How does one suggest a new lane to the CEC? Or even a shared use path? For example, I see very few peds using either pavement on Maybury Road, and especially on the West side. Occurs to me that a few of those blue and white 'peds+bike' signs would be all that's needed to convert to shared use, but maybe I'm being naive...?

PS: Something Happened is also the title of a novel by Joseph Heller. It followed 13 years after Catch 22. It wasn't remotely as good, though.

Hats off to those people for working in amongst the traffic like that. A couple of cones and a yellow van wouldn't be enough for me!

    Clearly hats were off...

Obviously years of experience of expecting motorists to be sensible(?)

Previously there was a bit of tarmac infill required around a metal cover. Lots of men and temporary traffic lights - obviously a different risk assessment regime.

How fast does the white paint dry? I can't imagine the road is closed to let it set - but they wouldn't want it to smudge.

    It's not paint as such.

    More about cooling than drying.

    Sets quickly.

I watched them when they were redoing the lines at MMW/Argyle Place a while ago. The 'paint' they used for the lines came in long strips that they melted onto the tarmac.

Just today spotted signs on Dalkeith Road about the 20mph zone giving dates (didn't take a note of these), and describing it as a "pilot".

be interesting to see any data on the effects on traffic flow in the area

I genuinely cant see there being any "perceived -ve effect". Its very different from the 20 zone in holyrood park (wide open, makes it easy for numpties to speed).

I dont think I ever get above 20 on side roads here - too many peds/bikes/kids/parked cars to speed, and the mains are still 30 anyway.

I hope those crews make it down to London Road/Abbeyhill area sometime. The ASLs around here are in dire need of repainting. I contacted the Council about it ages ago...

ASL's repainted at Balgreen last night (I think), what would much more helpful would be double yellows right along Balgreen Road out side the school to stop parents parking on the corner and holding up the buses turning left.

Yeah, Balgreen's a bit of a 'mare at School drop off / pick up times. Fortunately I'm usually going through at other times.

The number of repainted ASZs that have appeared is quite remarkable. They are all over the place.

The bus/cycle lanes and ASLs on (parts of) London Road have been redone recently. Been terrible for ages.

Now someone needs to teach drivers that the first white line is a STOP line.

    Posted 13 years ago #
  29. Loads of the white lines out Duddingston Way and beyond have been repainted as well. Though, as SRD says, it doesn't make the white lines mean anything more to many drivers!

There's supposed to be a L&BP + CEC campaign starting in April.
