Really? That could be interesting (and I think we can pre-write the website comments about it...)

"CEC recruits police to enforce anti-car agenda?"
Someone on here mentioned that April thing before in a sounding-like-they're-involved sort of way. Splitshift or LaidBack, perhaps?Posted 13 years ago # -
They are redoing the ASL east bound on Fountain bridge leading on to Semple Street as I type this.
Just burning off the old bicycle.Posted 13 years ago # -
And they are done! I wonder if the now bright white lines will encourage people to wait behind them.

Noticed that the southbound cycle lane on Brunstfield Place on the steepish uphill section has been repainted.
It's still a bit narrow and close to the parked cars (there is a small gap) but at least you can see it now.

Is this the old "it's coming up to end of the tax year, lets spend the last of the paint budget" wheeze, or "it's coming up to an election lets spend the paint budget to aim for the cycling vote" wheeze?

@kaputnik
I favour the latter option.
BUT that highlights 5 years of not doing enough.

I was being more optomistic about this and believing that the council are actually starting to think about improving things for cyclists.

I always forget about this time of year, when potholes are magically repaired and lines are repainted. Quite a few bits on my commute that I haven't ridden for a week or so that on my Saturday morning ride I took my usual 'avoidance' position on the road, only to find that it was now unnecessary as the repair had finally been enacted.

Let's be fair to the council - they could have chosen to spend this money (last minute budget, pre-election bribe or not) on something entirely unrelated to cycling. If you want to win votes, spending the cash on cycling (still a minority pursuit) seems an odd way to go about it.

I'm pleased to report that ASL's, bus lane lines and road markings have been fully repainted along London Road, junction with Montrose Terrace, right up to Willowbrae Road.
Just noticed this morning, must have been done last night or I just didn't notice yesterday evening from tiredness...
Nah, I would have noticed. It was there first thing this morning so must have been done overnight.

Well out here in the Orient work has finished on fixing the road beyond Musselburgh towards Prestonpans. The resurfacing stops at the entrance to Prestongrange Museum from where the bone jarring, tooth loosening surface is as bad as ever.

Apparently -
'Short notice underspend from other budgets. 200 junctions (not all arms
at every one - only where needed).'Also -
'Current policy on red colour is to use red chips in the surface when
this is replaced. Not as noticeable but will not require regular
renewal.'Anyone noticed recent red renewal??

Actually my mistake, the repainting only extends as far as Meadowbank retail park. The ASLs at the junction with Willowbrae Road aren't too bad anyhow.

Hi, first comment as a user. The white lines appearing around the city are the result of a Council decision on 2nd Feb to spend about £60k on refreshing cycle markings around the city before the end of March. The same decision included funding for c100 new cycle parking places. There's a cycle awareness campaign kicking off in April and the markings will hopefully help contribute to that.
From April the 5% funding for cycling announced in the Council budget will kick in and help to pay for a refresh of some of the red marking as well.Posted 13 years ago # -
@GordonMackenzie welcome.
"pay for a refresh of some of the red marking as well"
That is good news.
In recent years there have been 'debates' about "cost" (as in 'no money') "streetscape" (as in 'some parts of the council think that it's more visually polluting than traffic or parked cars'!)

Yes, we were treated to the surface on the way back to Musselburgh yesterday. Nice to get a smooth surface after the lunar surface just beforehand!

Well, the first week or so of the newly repainted ASLs in Abbeyhill was nice. Drivers were actually staying out of them, mostly.
Different story now. It's like they've suddenly remembered that PC Copper doesn't bother to enforce the ASL or punish transgressors. Cars all over the Montrose Terrace ASL over the past few days every time I've been anywhere near.
Sigh.
