Part way through the artcle and enjoying it a lot, thanks :-)
Incidentally, I do often commute in the clothes I work in (craghoppers and polo shirts generally, since you ask..) at least in part because my route to work hardly involves any hillclimbing but the route home invloves lots (so I can throw my sweaty clothes in the wash when I reach home). I also find heavy traffic not a disincentive, but an incentive to cycle along city streets, my ideal is *just* short of gridlock, keeps the car speeds low and improves my smugness quotient ;-)

Good work, that man and woman and other men and women. I do love me a good bit of citycycling. I'm as happy with wordy as I am with brief, so wingpig's article did the business for me, mostly as a compare'n'contrast to my own experience since I'm not a particularly sweaty person until summer hits and I lose the ability to keep cold due to running out of layers that can legally be removed.
Thankee for the positive feedback, chaps and chappesses, I aim to please(apart from people who sell or recommend mountain bikes for road use), although I wasn't expecting Anth to let the goatse reference through.
If you don't know what it means already, don't find out.

Just finished wingpig's article (started it on Friday! :p) and also enjoyed the in depth look at the subject.
It left me thinking how different people are in terms of their body's ability to cope with the cold or the heat.
I can rarely contemplate riding without a jacket on, it's just too cold when you're moving, except on warm summer days.
I ride in a work shirt a lot and just about get away with it. I've certainly never ended up looking like wingpig's self portrait photo (eurgh!) My back is the first bit to go and I can't see my back!
I'm usually fine until I hit the first bit of uphill then and that's where the sweating will start.
But going to work is downhill so it's all good.
Another thing: I ride in work trousers all the time; wallet and coins in one pocket and keys in another. I've not had anything fall out and never felt in any risk of that happening.
Occasionally I'll lose coins sitting in a car, but never on the bike.
Worst thing about office dress on the bike, I find, is slippy soled work shoes. They can actually be a bit dangerous.
