  2. Awww, bless their cotton socks.

At least I presume they're blessed. Possibly using the blood of 100 virgins sacrificed during a solar eclipse given the price of them...

Perhaps we need to devise some 'heaven of the north' rides/routes(?)

Tours of Edinburgh and the Lothians?

I have a personal one that goes from Edinburgh to Midlothian on less than 'established' tracks.

There's some pavé just inside East Lothian too.

You can go round the Pentlands on road or on off-road routes dependent on how much traffic you like but my favourite is Cairnpapple Hill

From Balerno spin down to Kirkliston on a Sunday morning (essential for next bit as is rat run on every other day) - take backroad to Linlithgow, then cycle over the top through Beecraigs Country Park. Cairnpapple is alleged as burial ground of ancient kings of Lothian and view is stoopendous./ Recreated burial mound - ties in nicely to fake stone cicle on very steep descent to bathgate. From there if you have tie go to The Pyramids (if lucky the pink sheep will be grazing) then take the Country Park route to Livingston. Return east through livy seems to work better for the bikes on the roundabouts.

My mate Mitch did this once when he had at least 7 pinta at a Ceilidh we were at the night before. I count this as the greatest sporting achievement I have witnessed.

We did this route as etape training and I found the hills of the etape to be quite flat.

Yeah, there are some steep hills round Cairnpapple. Kingscavil, up to Beecraigs, etc. etc. Short sharp ones that rear up at 16% - 18%. I did a few of them today at a real crawl. Some good views at the top, and boy have you earned them.
