"Assessing the need for and implementing appropriate access controls"

    http://www.sustrans.org.uk/assets/files/design%20and%20construction/Access%20Control%20Guide%20Jan%202012.pdf

Long technical document (with pix) useful for assessing whether existing 'obstacles' (barriers/chicanes/etc.) are necessary and well designed.

Heh. Photo 5 (page 25) at Caldercruix. Ruggtomcat and I negotiated that one on the infamous Giro Centralbeltia. The whole (brand new) path was full of such pitiful barriers and chicanery.

I really dislike those A and K-frame things. I'm glad that the manual agrees with me on this. Fortunately there aren't too many of them around these parts.
