These have started appearing on the back of First buses.

Rumour has it that Lothian has been planning stickers saying "Do not pass on the left" - possibly even in CAPITALS.

Concerted effort by the police and council (inc Cllr. Mackenzie) seems to have caused a re-think.

It might be simplest to order some stickers like the one above, but LB will probably come up with their own version!

rip it off the back, rip the cyclists bit off the top, stick back onto bus windscreen.

    Cyclist safety improved.

Similar to the NYC schools "Don't Do Drugs" pencils which, when sharpened, lost the "Don't".

Followed an LRTLB (sorry, gave away my age) bus tonight with "Keep Out of the Box" and a photo of an ASL on the back.

Nice idea, hope a few more people realise what the boxes are for as a result.

    Didn't get a photo though...

Police have already started 'telling off' drivers - and a smaller number of RLJers.

They will be fining people in May...

Wonder how many taxi drivers they'll get...

At cYcle friendly employer award the LB manager who is the cyclist in their video was telling me about stickers.

As with the police they are pro cyclist and pro good sense used on the road by all road users

If you know Harry Hill now I like pro cycling ideas and I Like the idea of everyone on the road using good sense. But if there is an issue with going down the left hand side of a bus, how can we sort it out? I know, FIGHT, FIGHt, FIGHt

On the box front I have been contemplating telling motorists in the box in a friendly way that the polis are fining drivers at the moment for this infringement. Just thought I'd tell you as fellow user of the road

The driver can't see cyclists at the best of times so you have no chance going down his blindside

Lrt seem to be keeping it simple... Shot from the car while stationary ... Don't shoot me.

    DO NOT
    Pass on the left

Problem is there are so many lothian buses parked on my way to work if I don't pass them I'll be there all day and whilst over taking is theoretically better, putting ones self in the on coming traffic stream on gorgie isn't exactly sensible. Bus drivers need to (and seem to be) aware that under taking cyclists are a fact of life in the city and they need to be very aware instead of trying to pass the buck. This new scheme feels more like it's been cooked up by lawyers, at least now when they run you over they can say you were warned.

Got to agree to disagree Steveo, if it's stopped in a queue of traffic, then little problem passing on the left, but if it's moving or looks like there is a risk it will move I'll take the oncoming traffic stream anyday! You can always pull back in with a clear left signal and a bit of assertive riding. Get out in the traffic where you can be seen I say, running up the inside of any vehicle is a last resort (stands to reason if you can easily pass on the left then you're quick enough to pass on the right imho, where there are two lanes of course things are different!)

I don't think it's cooked up by lawyers, I believe it's a genuine attempt to educate the thoughtless/inexperienced.

It'll be interesting to see how many have 'escaped' and how long they survive.

Unless of course LB has changed its mind about changing its mind... (see first post).

The message on Sucklings tankers is much more effective - the important detail is Eye Contact. Both from the back and from the front (looking back at the driver through the windscreen)

With eye contact all the daft wittering about where you should and should not ride the bike around a bus become secondary issues. Look in to the eyes and agree what each of you is going to do about your relationship on the road.

I'd post a picture but this forum doesn't offer a browse and upload facility

@Smudge, generally I agree but there are plenty of pinch points along Gorgie where the traffic is crawling along at about 5 mph but its too narrow to go around when there is on coming traffic.

LOL Tulyar,I do remember that far back now you mention it and to bus tokens and buses you could jump on and off while they were moving!

  18. What about if there's a cycle lane on the left of the Lothian bus? Are you still allowed to go past?
