@kaputnic. I have my mums Box Brownie if you want to borrow that? You'll need to supply your own film though. Might make a nice retro pic if we pass that cliff in Carlops? I unsderstand it takes Kodak 620.

Waiting to see this route. Depending on my energy levels, I may be able to haul my carcass onto a bike for some of it... *eats furiously*

@wingpig - If there's somethign worth photographing, I'm sure one of the on-ride photographers will take a shot for me.

I think Anth's been on the case weatherwise as it's now to be dry, sunny intervals, 16mph ENE but still gusting to 30mph.

Now it's just a matter of choosing which bike to wear.

The iron horse still has a gammy leg, so it's between black fruity and wee blue floofy.

By a mile the sensible choice is wee blue floofy. My epic capacity for denial has finally admitted defeat and accepted that it's just a better bike and that's that, but wee blue floofy is an engineer, whereas black fruity is an artist.

Hmm Cotic for me I think. Saving the Dawes for an Audax next Saturday. Will this ride have cobbles? Will I be safer on my Mountain Bike?

I'll be at the LB shop as usual so can't go anywhere. Already down a couple of tours this week - not 50 mile ones. Just as well with this relentless weather.

Would advise return into city to avoid Gorgie or Easter Road although I'm sure it will go fine!

  12. I had contemplated taking the route past both Easter Road and Tynecastle in honour of the clubs giving us potentially quieter roads, but thought better of it.

Can anyeon check what the weather is saying (nowt that tells me is working on my computer at the mo).

Must remember to charge camera and nonhelmetcam.

8 degrees. Not raining. Sunny spells in afternoon. Wind c. 13mph easterly

  15. Excellent. Tempted to take the X, but the lack of 'guards would be a gamble. Might still be a lot of standing water about, so more likely the Kaff.

"Highlight of this section, however, are the Craigentinny Marbles"

Do you know about The Wauchope Mausoleum?

    Bagsy not behind steveo.
I didn't note the particular type of car I was behind at one point this morning but the rear wheels were right at the back and unflapped, resulting in spray reaching surprisingly chinlike heights.

  21. chdot, the Wauchope Mausoleum is a new one on me (Edinburgh must be full of these little wonders).

I'm not sure there is much chance of me ending up at the front, It'll take me all my energy not to drop off the back!

"the Wauchope Mausoleum is a new one on me"

Hard to find - hidden in a back green!

"Edinburgh must be full of these little wonders"

    Yep!

Stick to the route - you'll soon catch anth photographing Art Deco, birds, badgers (made that up), foxes, other people on bikes, (etc.)

I hope the ride goes well, I'd like to join you but will be with the weans.

Craigentinny Marbles - I had no idea that was there; I've passed that road end hundreds of times by bike.

I'll carry my lock for those who forget. Even though it only reaches round at most 3 bikes or 2 plus bike rack.

I've stuck mine in the carradice, though it's more of a polite request not to steal the bike rather than a deterrent...

  29. I'll be carrying a minimum of stuff. Tool roll on the bike, camera in bag, and lock in bag, with a couple of nibble things in case if sugar need/non GF availability. The benefit of the urban ride, never really too far from somewhere to shelter/get food/call a taxi to/buy a spare (given even supermarkets have inner tubes and the like now).

I'll have a longish cable and padlock. Not bothering with the U-lock as well. I've also removed two of the heavier tools from the toolbag in my pannier.
