Sorry guys and gals. Family duty calls tomorrow. Have a great day out cycling round Edinburgh. I hope we get some miraculous nice weather instead of a cloudy cold day which looks forcast.

    Dave.

I made it home, with a bit of a detour, to achieve the claimed 50 miles...

Now need food and a bath!

Kudos to Anth for an inspired plan for today. I'd say I spent a good 80% of the ride on new territory, so I call epic win.

Nice ride Anth, sorry you didn't get the chance to do the full thing. Next time, huh?

Have to say I liked the nice yellow casing of your tyre that you managed to expose. And if it makes you feel any better, I got a slow puncture and had to push from Chambers Street to home.

Views from reverse slope of Corstorphine Hill were great, and an unusual aspect of the city.

Particularly enjoyed the helter-skelter ramp up to the top (and back to the bottom) of St. James Centre car park. Great views up there too, and not a car to spoil it (they were all parked on George St.)

Yeah good fun, not so sure the racer was the right tool for the cyclocross mind.

Photos in the morning, not had a chance to review...

whew I had an absolute blast today...not sure how much I'll be moving tomorrow though lol - glad I called it quits when I did.

Well done for a fab idea anth. I think next time I do something like this I might try and find a lighter bike to do it on.

Those dogs were adorable. You can prove it with science and maps.

MMR doesn't want to import my GPX or TCX file. Have a look on Strava instead.

Bumsy. I forgot to time myself going up Kaimes. I was about 30m behind PS and Kap, if I recall correctly, so if you chaps took a note, I can estimate from that.

    Top day out, chaps. Cheers.

@Uberuce My Garmin reckons I got up Kaimes Road in 3mins 12 secs.

    How are your knees?

They're not grumbling that much, which is a pleasant surprise.

That is good news. I don't think I'd have any knees anymore if I'd attempted Kaimes in that gear... ;o)

My quads, however, are giving me pelters. The DOMS tomorrow are going to be a big fat bitch.

  27. It's been a while since I've spent that length of time in the saddle, definitely felt it the next day, then compounded it all with a walk around a really picturesque reservoir in East Lothian in the sun yesterday.

Hammering home into the headwind was somewhat contrasty with the relaxed ride we'd been enjoying, but I got home with the tyre holding up. I need to get the wider Vavert 'guards before I can fit the brand new CX tyres I have had sitting in the garage for a wee while now, so banking on it remaining dry I serviced the X's brakes and took that to work today - definitely going to be the right thing to do putting CX tyres on the Kaff - feels so much more comfy! (and 2 seconds faster on one of my Strava segments...).

Anyway, thanks all for coming along on my little personal whim - high point for me was quite literal, being the multi-storey ascent. I'm a big kid at heart, and I'll be riding that one more often for views and such like. Just felt so much fun being part of a wee group doing that, it's the type of thing you only see in YouTube clips for cool San Francisco fixsters and the like.

I'm glad the Craigentinny Marbles didn't disappoint as well. I have to admit I'd forgetten quite how huge they are...

    Anyway, time for some awards...

The looks on the faces of the folk in the multi-storey were ace.
