"Known as Lay Diversity Advisers, the volunteers will give advice on equalities and diversity with an emphasis on how the police relate to minority communities.

The scheme covers six strands - race, gender, age, faith, sexual orientation and disability."

    Not cyclists then...

    Yes, I cycle religiously.

That is of course stolen from a sign on Alistair Gow's door.

Someone needs to point out that gender should not be included under 'minorities' unless they are talking about men (who are usually a minority in average populations).

These days gender is more complex than the two commonest options.

I really don't think Lothian and Borders is concerned with Caster Semenya.

And to be fair, they don't explicitly include gender as a category of a minority, but it is that use of 'gender' to mean 'women' lumped in with 'minorities' that annoys me.

Yes, there is a bit in Yes Minister about that. Sir Humphrey accepted that women are not a minority but have some of the same characteristics. I haven't got to that episode yet. I took a side trip into Fawlty Towers this week because I got a copy with John Cleese commentating. I'll be back onto Yes Minister soon.

My favourite Fawlty Towers episode is Mrs Richards - Deaf Mad and Blind. Thought the Dad's Army episode with Fraser copunting his money was on last Saturday (but fecking Guardian was giving out English Telly in Scotland again).

John Cleese fave is Basil the Rat.

I think Mrs Richards was named after someone Connie Booth didn't like. Apparently they did a lot of that.

I don't use a dead tree for TV listings. I use the Radio TImes web page. You can set up an account and then get it to show the channels you want. I did used to have a tuner on the computer but it doesn't work in this house.

No, Michael Palin is better for that kind of thing. If you need him he will appear.

"If you need him he will appear"

Is that by magic or is a fee involved?

I love Yes Minister and Fawlty Towers but I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than watch Dad's Army.

Jones can get annoying but it's worth watching for the dynamic between Mainwaring and Wilson.

Actually it's worth it just for Wilson.

    Did he cycle?

    Think Hodges did.

I think there is at least one episode there they all appear to have cycled. They are in the novelty rock emporium and there is no room for their bikes so they leave them outside and Hodges gets outraged because they aren't immobilised.
