    Greetings

I thought it might be of some interest to members to hear about The Vat Run MTB trails we are building in South Queensferry.

The Vat Pack volunteers have recently finished building a pump track on the site which is just starting to settle in. This is the first phase of the project that will hopefully, and eventually, see a series of single track, jumps line and skills loop on a woodland site immediately to the back of Port Edgar marina.

The pump track is not yet the finished article and still needs some tweaking to get it riding sweetly.
I am interested to hear feedback from anyone who has ridden or wants to ride it on what improvements are necessary.

We hold regular volunteer work sessions and the next few will be on fettling the pump track itself. Anyone and everyone is welcome along to join us - the camp fire is always burning and the kettle always hot....

There are more pics on our Facebook group 'The Vat Run' and there is a short piece on YouTube

Hey this is great news. I recognise the taller guy on the left with the beard from my commute into Edinburgh.

Vat Run. The name any reference to Vat 69 Whisky that used to be blended and bottled in South Queensferry?

you were a lad living in SQ? As were I to the age of 7. They knocked down the Vat 69 chimbley when we were on holiday, I was very upset to have missed it.

And the prize goes to kaputnik. The site is right next to where Vat69 distillery would have been and includes part of the railway line that would have shipped the stuff away. It seemed like too good a punning opportunity to pass up. Didn't want an X in the name either...
The project is still in the early stages and is/will be almost entirely volunteer built. The overall plan has been done by Pete Laing who did much of Glentress etc.
Keen to hear from anyone interested in a bit of trail building who wants to get involved.

"what's a pump track?" - I was wondering the same?

Not a mountain biker myself, wish I was a tad younger. However, this looks like a great project.

This type of thing would be great within Edinburgh. There's money about, so they say. Where in Edin itself could they put something similar? Even something small scale would have it's uses. Perhaps not even typical 'mountain biking', but some sort of urban equivalent??

    There's one in Wester Hailes.

Don't know about the other things listed here -

There has been long time talk about something in Hawkhill Woods and there are usually 'jumps' at place like Corstorphine Hill.

This is the track ours is based on - although slightly adapted due to materials, conditions, equipment etc. One of the young guys (14yo) came up with the idea for the design.

Not sure if I can post up pics of the actual track here (tell me otherwise)? But there are pics on 'The Vat Run' Facebook group to compare and contrast.

A bit of educating the young 'uns is required to show them how a pump track is ridden so we're working on setting up a bike club at the moment as well.
