Obviously not about cycling, but shows what health related changes can be made when resources are targeted (plus a bit of bribery).

Ahh, the weekly breath test, memories...
I also remember getting back on my bike, and after only 3 years off it, cycling only 3 miles and feeling sick. I really couldn't believe it!
Stopped smoking not long after that, best thing I ever did!

So, with the incentive money, plus the £5 per pack, thats a 20/day smoker saving £47.50 per week !!
A few months of that and they could buy me a decent bike.

Great as far as I am concerned, fewer fag smokers outside pubs and shops too. I gave up nine years ago and the only regret I have is that I did not give up years earlier. I would be so skint if I did still smoke, what with that and the price of a pint/glass of wine in pubs these days.
The knock-on benefit effect has to be that if the parents give up smoking they have more to spend on their children as well.
Addicts of any persuasion always find the money, usually having large debts in terms of credit card expenditure, overdrafts, or simply robbing others or shops.
...and of course the health benefits for the individual.
