I suppose substracting even a single Beemer from the city's streets can only be a good thing for cyclists.

his kids must be at school now. maybe they'll give someone else a shot on it?

I have only anecdotal evidence that it's being used for kid ferrying. I've definitely seen it in the Drill Hall though. How exactly Out Of The Blue got their hands on it is rather mysterious, however. Presumably the Bike Station did not have the space at the time, or just preferred the sleeker Bullitt cargo bikes.

This seems a little mean spirited - the Scotsman article says the new Lord Provost is a teacher at Newbattle High in Dalkeith and lives in Stenhouse. Hardly sounds like he is rolling in cash - would you rather he hadn't installed solar panels or bought a fuel efficient car? I would imagine he is well disposed towards cycling due to his green views, even if he doesn't cycle himself.

I think we should focus on cultivating allies rather than attacking well intentioned people before they have even taken up office.

    Of course. Only joking.

It's great that he is considering his energy usage. The point that folk were making is that while hybrid or electric vehicles may produce less CO2 than monster truck 4x4s, they're still not exactly sustainable when you consider the resources necessary to produce them, charge the batteries, etc.

Still, the Scotsman journos seem impressed. I anticipate a rush of them purchasing Priapus hybrids when they 'refresh' their vehicles next year.

As to teachers rolling in cash, maybe not compared to professionals working in the private sector, but since McCrone teachers are actually reasonably well paid, especially if a head of department or similar.

    FTFY.

Couldn't pay me enough. Hard job that (my ex was a primary teacher).

possibly sticking my head above the wrong parapet here...but it's a start isn't it? At least a prius would definitely be better for the world than the bmw?
You can't make someone run before they can walk.

"He said: “I know you are still having to use the old energy-hungry cars because I saw you in one of them recently when I passed you on my bike as you were stuck in a traffic jam near Balgreen. As a society we need to break the link that says status equals big car and big car equals status. "
