Very jealous of you lads. Was in Edinburgh for the weekend doing family stuff and found myself walking a dog along Seafield prom in the sunshine fairly early Saturday morning, gazing longingly along the coast and thinking "those lucky, lucky b*stards!"

Sitting in my office now, I am pretty jealous of "past me".

About time for another long ride?

Well, I've got a road bike with 34"-100" gears now, so it seems silly not to use them. That said, I still find myself less knackered going up Gilmerton hill on the 74" fix than said geared device.

I have a theory that on some subconscious level you look at a hill and decide how many revolutions it's going to need. Since I'm used to a small grindy number, I get dismayed by a high spinny number. Just need some reprogramming, I think.

I'm off up to Plockton as of next Saturday, so I'll be amusing myself with the hills there on my moving-gift tractor MTB, which ought to speed up my geared-fitness programme.

Plockton - wonderful. Have a great time. Don't forget the midget repellent and watch out for highland cattle

Oh, you're talking to a veteran. My Dad was born and raised in Plockton, and we go there almost every year.

I bet you organise this for when I'm away on holiday, eh? Don't worry, I won't take offence. *stomps off*

*sidles back* I may be able to do this Sunday?

PS, I think this might happen in late August.

I'm starting a new thread for it.

@Tom Late August might work for me - the last weekend at least.

Great, though unfortunately I can't do the last weekend of August.

I would be up for another ride before then if anyone is interested. Got to enjoy the summer weather while it lasts ;)

I can do something this Sunday, perhaps not a cross-border dash, but "something".

How about down through the Moorfoots, over to St Mary's back via Talla, Dawyck and the Meldons? Is that too far?

Too far? No I think that's far enough! I'm free both days.

Up the Wall of Talla requires a route south down the 701, then east up the reservoirs, then north towards Peebles...

I prefer down. I much prefer going south through the Moorfoots. I could plot up a route if you like but its quite straightforward

It must be a nice long climb from the St Mary's Loch side? Then a brakeblock burner to get down to Talla Reservoir.
