Have to collect a small person from a party at Timetwisters tomorrow afternoon. Cyclestreets suggests this route

Assuming I take the quiet route, is there some reason that I'm missing for getting off the canal at Hailesland road (is that where we often see buses waiting?), rather than further on at calder crescent? Or splitting the diff and just going straight up wester hailes road?

I'll be armed with Spokes map, rather than gps/smartphone so any landmarks appreciated (I figure I'll have gone too far if I cross the ringroad).

Don't know the route, but Spokes map usually a better guide than Cyclestreets IMHO: as long as it's a recent edition. Except for parts not covered by Spokes maps of course (ie. everywhere outside the Lothians and Glasgow).

SRD, I would take canal all the way to Cultins Road, along bankhead terr, up bankhead drive - its a simple route and avoids (really) busy roads.

Thanks Nelly - any suggestions for how I should recognise the turn for Cutlins Rd?

Long straight stretch through WH then canal turns sharp right.

Then goes under a road (bridge) exit before it turns left.

Exactly as chdot says - once you get past wester hailes etc, keep going until you get to some of those chicane type gates with the bumpy bumps, 2 bridges close together then next exit right. You are on cultins road, so go down before taking 1st right to bankhead terr.

    Ps, timetwisters has free wifi

" keep going until you get to some of those chicane type gates"

Are those chicane gates still there post-surfacing?

I did Harrison to Ratho a few weeks back and I don't recall any chicane gates (was early in the morning though so maybe my memory didn't register them properly).

Just trying to avoid the possibility of SRD cycling all the way to Falkirk looking for chicane gates...

thanks all - was actually now looking forward to the ride only to have someone offer to give her a lift :(

Doubtless they thought it was a difficult place to get to! And to be honest, I can use the time at work (or delivering pop postcards to spokes..)
