I'm afraid not, just old stones as though at some point hardcore has been spread to help the muddy sections. Dried hard packed at this time of year and just bumpy and unpleasant.
The small stones/gravel out of Sighthill is actually quite nice to ride on.

    100psi and armoured tyres ;-)
(he says touching every bit of wood in the vicinity!!)

Been lucky so far with (a lack of) punctures, long may it last and sympathies for your ordeal :-/

I now have an armoured rear tyre since it blew out proper recently. Think I will take the MTB along the canal next time, it will be OK once general traffic have worn the extra chippings away like the rest of the path

Since it opened it has sprouted two pairs of gates: one set just near where it goes underneath Calder Road and the others just past the Scott Russell aqueduct. They are quite attractive bits of ironwork, but, being matt black they will probably claim a few victims in the dark winter nights.Come the winter I will slap a couple of bits of Scotchlite onto them if nobody else does it first.

Also, bizarrely, they are right in the middle of the set of four speed bumps, so you have to negotiate the chicane and the speed bumps at the same time. Annoyingly, you actually have to slow down as you go through...

As I said, they are attractive bits of ironwork though.

Greenroofer, if you complain, they'll change them. I complained like mad when they first put the speedbumps in when they looked like mini ziggurats and they changed them within a few weeks.

Kirst, I interpreted Greenroofer's complaint as being an ironic comment that the combined measures of bumps and attractive gatres designed to slow us down near bridges actually slowed us down in a way that neither bumps nor gates on their own would do? If I am right his complaint would be that the measures designed to slow us down are slowing us down?

Five years later and the Tarmac has now extended all the way to Ratho. Barry, eh? As the chap I passed opined.

Please excuse double posting. I just want you to know.

Should we all get miroculous in the Bridge Inn to celebrate this great news?

Yeah - I noticed that on Saturday. A great difference to that once bumpy ride.

I just hope they won't get too slash and burn with the vegetation along the Union Canal. Around Broxburn it's a wonderful wildlife corridor in the summer. Masses of flowers and butterflies.

Has anyone seen the desert around Roseburn Park?

Rosie: yes, the park looks awful. Why were the trees beside the path from the play park cut down?

Is the recumbent demographic still unpopulated? It's been ages since I took lunch at the Bridge Inn.

Recumbentists straddle all the demographics you can imagine, so shouldn't be a problem.

(But it's mr. g doing demographic determinism.)

  29. The Bridge Inn has been very nicely gentrified for a little while now (might be why Gembo is so keen on it). Very very very nice the food is too (in the evening at least).
