    Dear fellow cyclists.

Please pop along to Castle Street between 10:30 and 16:00 for the launch of the A Better Way To Work campaign. Amongst the FREE attractions will be Dr. Bike mechanic, opportunities to try a selection of commuter bikes, advice on eco-driving and car sharing, advice on bus use, suggested walking and cycling routes to work from our team of jolly decent travel advisors, help for non-cyclists and those needing to develop their skills so that they are confident enough to ride in traffic. And free coffee too thanks to Hendersons!

    Come and say hello.
    Cheers
    Colin

  2. Excellent. I was at the bike breakfast thingy this morning for a short while and will be sauntering across to this at lunchtime.

It's the offer of free coffee really... ;)

Hmmmmm....had a nice chat with Colin and 'Laidback' but have been told that my bike is 'suffering from neglect' and 'unsafe to ride' !! This despite a service in Jan, further work from other mechanics and at least two Dr Bike sessions since Jan too.

Sigh. Guess I better sign up for one of those bike maintenance courses...

  6. Really?!?! What did they say was up with it...?

Spent most time chatting with Mark Sydenham and our very own Laidback. Nice to see the sun out, and very nice to see the billboard ads (in draft form) for the Better Way to Work campaign - pics will follow...

By the time I got there Mark had left and the coffee was cold, but had a chat with Colin, 'Laidback' and Kat, then played with a few bikes. Electric bikes are weird, not sure I would want to ride one in traffic.

  9. Better Way to Work billboards. There are a couple of versions, still to be finalised, but they avoid buzzwords like 'health' and 'environment' and 'cycling', and have a picture of a cyclist in 'normal' clothes and not wearing a helmet. Speaking to Mark it was a deliberate ploy to avoid them looking like NHS posters...

Never quite understood why the pedallers of the billboards have to wear Hi-Viz and helmets. If they are not visible without a yellow tabard, the advertising billboards are working!! Also things have four wheels weighted to have a low centre of gravity so how likely are the riders to fall over??

It is just the usual knee jerk it's got pedals, must dangerous, must wear Hi-Viz and helmet. Sad really.
