Policy leads to more car journeys

My extended commute via Tranent some mornings is reminding me of the folly of development policies followed by the government, national and local.

I always have to stop at the lights at this place in Tranent. The lights respond to the traffic coming out of the estate. Despite the lights letting traffic leave in preference to the main road, there is usually still a substantial queue within the estate waiting to leave. I presume at the time of morning (7.30am) none of these journeys are local commutes within Tranent's centre and that most are headed to Edinburgh and beyond.

It makes me sad that planning of new residential developments does not seem to pay any attention as to where the residents are to work (play and shop) and how they are going to get there. They do not seem to be in line with Government objectives (but who will audit them!)

There's a new housing development going into Musselburgh Near Pinkie Farm. The new residents will shop at Tesco which they will get to by car through the town. Despite the by-pass there are queues into the High Street from the west which are going to get much worse.
