oh yes, I meant to spot EddieD too, but forgot, and he got here first. suspect he was also responsible for the pop handlebar leaflets at the farmer's market?

Various bikepoloers (mallets sticking out of rucksacks).
Seems I missed this -
Can't know everything.
Maybe some people should post events here...

Recumbent bike on Myreside Road this morning. We exchanged discreet nods of acknowledgement.
Image quality isn't up to much: it's the result of a closing speed of 35mph-ish on a very joggly road surface...

SRD on Bruntsfield Links just after this morning's school run. Work bikeshed (shared with our rather more corporate landlords) duly POP2 leafleted ...

Gembo. Once last week and this morning. On the WOL.

A once removed spot...
Stan from The Pastures (cafe next to LB) was coming into town and said he was following the red bullet with Velocity on the side. (aka Arellcat in Quest)
Said it was quite fast so didn't feel the need to overtake!
Also was surprised how quickly it went up gradual hills... He clocked it at over 30mph and still going fast even on a slight rise.
Of course speed isn't everything ;-)

Interesting that we refer to the behaviour or movements of cyclists, in the sense of them being people (on bicycles), but we often refer to the road behaviour of cars, vans, etc. as though the driver of a vehicle was secondary. And so too is the velonaut caught up in the viewing as though the vehicle itself.

Spotted, hunners oh cyclists on the NEPN lastnight. Strangly fewer this morning. Perhaps with the threat of rain later on....

A small lorry, passing me with a good, wide pass, belonging to a firm called
Clarkson.
Well I thought it was ever so slightly amusing...Posted 11 years ago # -

I spotted a Red Velocity ( I think ) enclosed recumbent in Colinton Mains yesterday.

Guy in the back of a police car this morning on Gilmerton Road, bike propped against the wall. Saw him get out and ride off but no idea what happened.

Talkin of Polis....
I was stood waiting on a mate lastnight at 6pm on the bridge over Crewe Rd North, when a Panda car rolled pasted heading east. I'd just cycled from the east and spotted nothing out of the ordinary on my way west....

DaveC - perhaps that was because of this attack?

Maybe but there are several access paths to that stretch, so why they felt the need to drive along that stretch is beyond me... Perhaps unrelated to the link you posted. I did read the comments and apparently the Granton Path is much further north of that 'library??' picture, so possibly related to some other complaint. At least they patrol along there but it would be better if they did so on bicycles!

Yes I have seen them often driving their cars around the NEPN. I believe we discovered on here that the reason they do that is because it is faster than walking. Because if you can't walk then you MUST drive. It is the only alternative.

@ojom I conclude you are Mark?

Hello,
Regarding the use of cycle paths by police 'Panda' cars. It is very often the case that officers patrolling areas of Edinburgh need to access various parts of the cycle path network, and unfortunately it is not always practical to wait for a foot or bicycle patrol to attend. Perpetrators could be long gone by that time.
There are also different departments of the police involved with varying aspects of police work. It is most common that the first responders to any serious incident will be in a car, as this is the swiftest method of response. Bicycles are more commonly used by community officers who use the bicycles as transport between pre-arranged meetings and appointments. They do however use them to patrol, when they get the chance.
All officers use cycle paths with the greatest of consideration to all road/path users.
I hope this is of some use,
Paul

Thanks Paul
I have a vague recollection that
Quintin mentioned this the last time we spotted panda/patrol cars on the path
It does sometimes startle younwhenna vehicle appears on the cycle path but sometimes it is vans for tree cutting or diggers etc
I once was cycling up the WoL path and there was a car half way down the Colinton tunnel with a mum and three children in it, now that I found quite surprising

This reminds me I was almost T-boned on MMW last week by the council van pulling across the cycle lane without looking at the top, opposite the public toilets. If I hadn't been in a rush I would have stopped to remonstrate.
It seems the council send someone out in a van every day to open and close the toilets. But rather than park nearby, or enter from the top (there's a gate) they drive all the way up from the bottom.

Zenfrozt, Warriston, yesterday.

Johnnyboy spotted me, but I'm claiming it. I believe I was easily spottable from the rear as I was applying chalk to pavement on SMW.

DaveC and wingpig on warriston yesterday eveniAlsong. Also Srd though it was an arranged meeting so unsure if that one counts?

SRD!! Criminal damage (though quite how chalk damages tarmac I'm not sure of!!) tut tut... bally foreigners, coming over here, taking our (non Blue) chalk .... ;o)
Nice to see you Zenfrost, I was cycleing next to a lovely lady who owns an Orange Classic rolltop Ortlieb pannier, which I was complimenting her on, when we passed you- with your white panier!
I see Wingpig a few times but saying 'hello Wingpig' sounds a bit naff, and he's never told me his real name. (perhaps Wingpig IS his real name??)
