@SRD well my office has gained a second occasional Brompton, and my boss is probably getting one... I see several Bromptons and other folders around Haymarket on a more or less regular basis. So my answer is "Yes"... (at least, as far as folders are concerned!)

@SRD - sorry I missed you - think I was there a bit earlier. Hope your hand's getting better. My head is not usually turned by folding bikes, but it seems that is changing....

Drawing to a halt at the junction from Meggetland Wynd and Colinton Road this evening I was conscious that a very bright light had appeared silently behind me very close to the road (a bit like in Close Encounters). There was also a strange thrumming sound that could have been a UFO, or perhaps the resonance of a kevlar/carbon/glass fibre composite body on an unusual bicycle.

As the thing overtook it became clear that it was Arellcat in her red speed machine. She was kind enough to slow down to exchange a greeting, then she effortlessly (I assume) disappeared into the distance. Here is the view from my onboard camera of the disappearing act that must be familiar to the cyclists of Edinburgh...

I was at that junction at about 5pm

Cycled from Craigmillar to Cameron toll then kings building, morningside, craighoise. Would not like that to be my regular commute

Spotted a red bicycle of some description lurking in the trees as I sped down from Gillespie Crossroads towards Clovenstone roundabout. Why was it there? Was the rider caught short or was it abandoned? Didn't have time to stop and investigate unfortunately.

Also a splatted cat on the road. Too splatted to move :-(

Spotted what I thought was the fella in the faired trike that normally comes up my street at the same time as I return home(Nelly may have seen him too), except his lights were much better.

It wasn't until I was out of sight that I heard the strange thrumming of a UFO, and then nipped back into sight to confirm it was not the trike chap with upgraded lights, but instead was Arellcat in the red torpedo. Was going at a pace that most DF riders do not match. Kudos.

Took the little Greenroofers for a scoot from Lochrin Basin back to Shandon on the towpath just before lunch. There were just a few bikes out, all very polite. Saw two things of interest:

    • At the new park that's been the subject of discussion there was a chap who I sort of thought I recognised with a parked Brompton. He seemed to be teaching a boy to ride a bike up and down the new path across the park (which looks ideal for the purpose: gentle smooth slope + grass each side).
    • A bit further one we passed a child on a bike followed by a woman towing a trailer with a baby in. They both had that happy and healthy look of people for whom cycling is just a means of getting about, the confident bike handling of considerable experience and clothing that was chosen (again from experience) to be perfect for the job.

I'm sure both spots will be of people on here. I just don't know who they are :-)

Does a spot count if the name comes out wrong?

I spotted Kaputnik near the pinch point this morning, however I greeted him by shouting Kappa Two Nick

Someone set up with a camera (DSLR) and tripod on the corner of Palmertson Place and Grosvenor/Landsowne Crescent this evening around 17:45. He had the camera in portrait orientation so I would guess he was capturing light trails on the road with the churchy cathedral building in the background.

Daisydaisy on her bicycle built for two waiting in a queue of traffic at the lights at the end of Myreside Road this evening. She was kind of hidden behind a car, but the extremely bright light on her head caught my attention.

Ah, it was you, Smudge! Was just about to post "person wearing red hat on Brompton in Juniper Green, was it Smudge?" but you beat me to it.
Not an easy spotting opportunity given that at that time in the morning all you really see is a bright light or lights, and both of us were dealing with cars at the time...

"Not an easy spotting opportunity given that at that time in the morning all you really see is a bright light or lights"

BUT you saw his red hat.

Maybe that should replace 'hiviz' as 'recommended safety gear'.

Well I can claim an Uberuce spot (and chat) at about 12:15 - is there some kind of prize?

"Is there some kind of prize?"

Only if witnessed by a third party and submitted to the relevant authorities in a timely fashion.

You mean you didn't give him the passphrase and claim your five pounds?

Well my red hat is certainly cosier and comfier than the plastic variety at this time of year :-) not exactly hi-viz, but I have good lights on the Brompton and plenty retro-reflective so it probably all balances out.
Should be more spotting opportunities tomorrow evening as I need to head east into/through town after work :-)
