Not really... Now that I have been on here for a while, I wonder about any cyclists who appear to take an interest in other cyclists or, more specifically, their bicycles.

Spotted a tall chap on a silver allez (I think) with a green CCE forum top on heading along past the old macdonalds cycles and up towards toll cross. Not sure who it was but shirley a member from here.

Memory just been jogged to note the spotting of a man with long-ish grey hair riding a fixed gear bamboo bike from London Road towards Queen Street.

    He could fairly shift.

@ARobComp there are CCE forum tops? These would make spotting people so much easier!

I spotted fencing along the full length of either side of the path between George Sq. and MMW. If this is plastered with Fringe posters soon then conflict is guaranteed.

I think the forum website was on the back (I've got a couple in a drawer). Straightforward citycycling was (and still is) my original website that I need to do something with again, and CCE is chdot's baby that I was involved with (in as much as basically saying, "yeah, I think it's a good idea, and yeah, I don't mind you using 'citycycling'") at the start.

Jerseys were nice and cheap out of China, but I'm a bit rubbish at organising, and got messed around by the producers on a second run, so it all kinda ended. Getting a new jersey from a different producer (fair bit more expensive) for another website that might make me ponder again....

I sent the following message to Out of Hand Scotland:

"I notice that 'poster fencing' has been erected on both sides of the short path between George Square and Middle Meadow Walk. Assuming that this fencing becomes fully postered, there will be no available sightlines for people emerging from George Square onto Middle Meadow Walk to see cyclists on the busy bicycle lane, and vice versa... This will inevitably lead to conflict so needs fixing."

I'd be in for a jersey this time round.

Can we get some for the juniors too?

A surprisingly positive reply from Out of Hand Scotland:

"Many thanks for letting me know about your concerns with reference to the visibility of this area in Middle Meadow Walk.

I will get the two end panels removed tomorrow morning as the first part of the daily tasks carried out by my team, and then re-arrange these structures to ensure there is no impact on visibility before any posters are put up.

Please let me know your thoughts on this revised structure once we have built it, and please do not hesitate in contacting me if you require any further information or to discuss this matter further."

That's good, but overall I think they are intrusive. If people actually go and look at them, could cause problems.

Always up for a jersey if cheapish. Particularly enjoying the partick thistle vibe on the new design. They will sponsor us. Or we could sponsor them?

Intrepid group of four cycle-explorers at Cramond Brig. (Was heading out to South Queensferry with tandem and trike tour.)
Did my usual 'are they local?' when I saw them looking at map and offered my path knowledge.
Turns out that they were from Kilmarnock and doing the John Muir Way. Day three on the route using mountain bikes. Young riders (ie not grey) and really enjoying the slow travel experience I reckon. They'd used train to get to Helensburgh.

If the forum cycle tops get off the ground, could they 1) have something about PoP on them and 2) cost a bit more with profits going to PoP? Just a suggestion!

I'll have to start wearing my blue CCE jersey so people can get an easy spot.

  17. Hmmm, PoP would likely then need the okay from the committee (probably not a problem in itself) but might then want design input. Plus on the profits, better quality etc. means they'll cost about £50 each, with no profit whatsoever (plus, you're essentially asking for someone to do all of the organising, designing, taking payment, etc etc for nowt which, when they're not actually involved in PoP - well, it would be altruistic granted). PoP may of course just want their own jerseys.

Essentially the jersey would then have citycycling.co.uk, CCE and PoP somewhere on it. Oh, and there would be no different colour choices this time (getting all the same colour and buying in bulk reduces costs).

I think last time I was too 'yeah, gimme your ideas and I'll try to come up with something everyone is happy with'. Lemme put a design together, get some costings, and basically it's a one-design take it or leave it. And it'll be about £50 (I think the previous jerseys were £30-35?).

SRD, I'll check if they do kids sizes.

Re the advertising hoardings structures all up the side of MMW. This morning there were two hired vans parked on the MMW cycle path right beside a group of men apparently erecting even more of them.

  19. p.s. anyone wants to design it, of course, it's from Impsport, and so far being a painless process with my Ride It Like You Stole It jersey...

shuggiet on Myreside Road this evening at going home time. We waved. I seem to recall that we were dressed almost identically: brown hair flying free, dark reactolite glasses, blue top, black shorts. This may just be my imagination, though.

@greenroofer Almost identical other than red top and blue trousers for me.. Like the lyrical 'brown hair flying free'.. More like sweat stuck hair whilst relieved to be stopped at the temporary traffic lights.. Especially I was on a commuting fail 'left wallet in trousers at work' return trip..

@chdot I'd agree that there are too many poster fences on MMW, but I don't remember having any problems with regards people clustering around them in previous years; it has generally been more a case of there being too many people full-stop and the cycle lanes not being all that clear. It will be interesting to see if the new cycle lane markings and tactiles make any difference.

@cc I'd say that the GS/MMW junction is far better now.

Not 'one of ours' but should get spotted.

Sitting type tandem from US manufacturer RANS. Seats can recline more of course. New owner brought round to let me see. He got it for a good price down south and brought it up on train in two halves.

Two Uber-Mamils on George Street in full pro-team skinsuits and pointy TT hats on high end road bikes towing rather unique trailers that looked like a regular 700c wheel with a pannier rack mounted to it with a pannier on each side.

I imagined it was either a dare for a charity LEJOG or trying some sort of record attempt.

That sounds like the Extrawheel trailer. I have admired them from afar though I haven't a clue if they're any good in Real Life(tm).

Spotted a yellow steel cargo bike in fornells, menorca last night. Had huge steel basket frame to take huge plastic bucket (of fish.) over brompton sized front wheel but with normal sized back wheel all in yellow steel. Went over to check brand. Turned out it was a pashley
