Why? Just use the original...

Does show space taken up by 69 bikes in peloton is much smaller than 69 cars in a jam?

I think the main point is to show an Australian context rather than a European one. Also there will be moving images which will be more difficult to realise -
"
In addition to capturing a single representative image, we will be utilising time lapse photography and other images to create a short film that shows the process of getting people and vehicles in place and illustrates the time requirements to move vehicles and, more importantly, people through our cities.

Didn't realise that photo was from Muenster. I'm going there next month for a couple of days.
Germany's bicycle capitial apparantly.
I shall contemplate the variety of different vehicular sizes during my visit.

@cb, I've been in Münster, it's great. Hire a bike and the bike paths are just fantastic.

One issue I have with this is that one bus carrying 69 people might be better for congestion than 69 cyclists? Not better for the planet etc. but possibly better for congestion, flame me now I am not a troll honest
Posted 12 years ago # -
...but the bus can't break up into 69 discrete modules to flow through obstructions...
Posted 12 years ago # -
@wp +1
Also 69 different destinations - not along same route.

Yes wp and chD I take your point but my reflection is that your argument is a little bit like why people would choose cars rather than the bus. Takes me where I want to go.
We all use bikes to get through congestion but somedays roads quite congested with bikes? I think this is good and I will continue to cycle for fitness and time but still feel one bus carrying 69 people to central point where they all then walk to their individual destinations is better for congestion than 69 cyclists, sorry to go on...If I ruled the world, no cars, 69 people on the bus but if don't like the bus, get a bike?
This train of thought implanted in my brain by the photographs

The graphic certainly suggests very strongly that cyclists cause congestion and should all get the bus instead but it is nonsense for the reasons Mr Pig and chdot give.

Gembo, what about congestion on the pavements? I find most pavements far more congested than roads, particularly since pedestrians greatly outnumber motorised traffic and pavements are so incredibly narrow.

Min not according to the graph, walkers plummeting I mean the graph on the other string
Posted 12 years ago # -
But that graphic isn't about Edinburgh.
Anyway Min is highlighting the point that not enough 'roadspace' is allocated to pedestrians.
Unlike bicyclers, peders just aren't organised enough to get things changed.

A lot of them can't even walk in a straight line

"...peders just aren't organised enough to get things changed..."
Any time a set of traffic lights breaks the inability of pedestrians to unite and force traffic to allow them to cross is highlighted.

69 people on a bus with their own folding bikes, mitt be a solution...?

Dunno, when Murrayfield empties after an international you can see the power pedestrians can exert on traffic when they try.
I got annoyed when the trambles put a big concrete sign post on Morrison st where it gets narrow. That must be one of the busiest stretches of pavement come five o'clock and its already narrow enough without half of the pavement taken over.
Wasn't the London underground built to relive pedestrian congestion?

I think it would be nice to replicate the Muenster photos somewhere in Edinburgh.
It brings it home, makes it feel local, and would be further publicity for cycling in Edinburgh.
When people see pics from Oz, London, etc, there is a disconnect. That's not really us, thats them down under/down in the big smoke...
