It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

On my cycle in today I rode along side a chap from Dunfermline. He got a puncture in S Queensferry and as he had old skool nuts holding his wheel on got out his dumb bell spanner. He pressed down to loosen the nut but the spanner snapped off and the way the 'grain' of the metal looked, it had been poured into a mould and not machined. I have a Dumb bell spanner but I don't trust it too much now.

Par for the course, in my experience.
They are not all the same however, and some are pretty tough. Trouble is, the all look the same until they snap!
They are ideal for wheel nuts on older bikes though and I carry one on my commute. I use it to do maintenance too, so it gets stress tested at home where it doesn't matter if it snaps (apart from the pain that usually seems to cause).
My Brompton has wheel nuts. When I ride it I always carry my Park RW-3 Road Wrench that is 15mm at one end for axles and 36mm at the other for Avenger-sized headsets. Everything else can be done with my multi-tool, which spectacularly failed to cope with wheel nuts the first time I tried it.
There can be a fair amount of torque required to loosen off tracknuts - I bought a small-ish but well made and machined Surly spanner (mainly because it came in a nice bag and was called the "Jethro Tool"), but I'd certainly trust it to do the job. It's handily a bottle opener at the other end, which is flattened and perfect for hammering on to help free really stiff nuts.
My £3 dumbell spanner (which is probably cast too) I would trust for not much more than tightening up derailleur cable clamps or light and mudguard mounts.
I used to have a dumbell spanner. Years ago it took up a new life rattling round in the bow of the 60kg pair at Strathclyde Park after it slipped through a hole in the decking. It is probably still there.
We used to use them on the Pedicabs for the front wheel nuts and hut gear fastenings, Good because they're so compact, but at the same time we had issues with the strength of some. I had one or two last AGES (even shoving a screwdriver through to increase leverage). I still have scars on my knuckles from some snapped ones though!
I carry a small AJ same size as a dumbell but stronger and more versatile.

I carry one whenever I'm riding a bike with solid axles, which in my case is more the rule than the exception.
Great shop in morrison st sells single spanners for a quid each. I have quite a few in a drawer. On road I have a wee monkey wrench. Not much Kop but very dinky

Yep all sorts of interesting s/h tools.
Got a great small 2M retractable steel tape measure (lives in my pocket, useful for measuring things) for 50p.
