    Driverless Cars.

    No really

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/9755210.stm

Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt's hope that "self-driving cars should become the predominant mode of transportation in our lifetime",

And this is sitting cheek by jowl on the BBC website with yet another report about the horrific transport problems that occur when cars so much as begin to be the "dominant form of transport"

    Agree

Although, at least driverless cars wont be using their mobile phone / changing radio channel / 'avin a fag instead of wathing the road ahead.

Its a bit hard to figure out when the driverless part will come into play. They only seem to be talking about motorways in the article which don't affect us on bikes anyway.

Driverless cars? Sounds a bit like buses or trains to me!

Oh, but then yu'd have to share more than just road space with people you might not like. Perish the thought eh? Better to stay in the hermetically sealed bubble, in Googol we trust...

I found this part highly ironic:

What would happen if the technology fails and no person in the car knows how to drive?
"Society will find that very difficult," says Rodger. "We are increasingly a blame culture. When something goes wrong, we look for someone to pin it on.
"Without accountability, drivers are going to find that harder still."

Though when a driver fails, that's apparently okay in the majority of cases unless they do something really murderous/reckless. Because the road was at fault, or they were blinded by the sun, or the victim wasn't wearing dayglo clothing. Or something else that deflects responsibility away from the perpetrator, after all the majority rules.

How driverless cars could reshape cities

"or have an exercise bike in the back of the car to work out on the way to work,"

I thought this quote was too good not to share.
