I was pleased to see this. Hoy is saying a lot of the right things. I hope Keith Brown is listening.

Its not just politicians - there is a lot of 'attitude' toward cycling from some sectors of society.
As we have said here before, it is seen as a fairly middle class 'thing' to do - commuting especially.
Its weird how this has evolved, I remember my grandparents telling me that they cycled / walked miles when they were young - out of economic neccessity. IMO until 'the masses' click that running 2 cars (or whatever) is killing them financially as well as physically, cycling will not take off (out of low single fig % anyway) regardless of infrastructure improvements.

Aye, but don't forget that it is the middle classes who are most likely to vote, and that has a lot of influence. Also it is not just economic factors that count, there is quality of life and safety of children to take into account. Because the roads were seen as being dangerous many middle class families kept their kids off the roads, hence the need for that second car, the result? An obesity epidemic and lots of miserable kids. People are beginning to recognise this and think there must be a better way, there is, just look across the North Sea to the better quality of life in so many continental towns and cities, we can do that here...
@Nelly "regardless of infrastructure improvements." can you show any evidence to back that up? Because all the evidence I know of shows that when you get the infa right active travel takes off.

@Kim "can you show any evidence to back that up" Nope, as I said, just my opinion, not based on any facts !
Nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong, though.
