  1. Heading home tonight, in a 20 zone, keeping pace at 20 with an old dear in a Ka in front. We're both overtaken by an Astravan at speed. Lights red ahead (to his credit he's not in he ASL). Window is down, "That was a bit stupid," I declare. He leans out the window and shouts (non-aggressively actually) "Aye but ah'm in a hurry!"

Pretty much anything seems to be OK if you're in a hurry.

I vote for In Praise of Slow by Jean Carl Honore. Well until I get my tricross fixed I am on my v heavy sturmey 3 speed with double pannier and wide marathon plus. So I ain't in a hurry

Although I'm not actually convinced that it works that way. I think what people really do is make themselves late so that they have the excuse of being in a hurry so that they "need" to speed. A contrived compulsion.

people make themselves late for sure, e.g. By not getting out of bed earlier enough in the morning. Have four of them upstairs at the moment. One will walk, three will go a short distance in a car because of this. Must be a big factor in car use for short journeys? Many more people could walk everywhere if they weren't in a hurry.
