I reckon I can do this, if only for the photo op

Well you might just have some competition!

....If I can find that damn charger for my camera that is.

@LaidBack: I think I erroneously called it Murrayfield park earlier, apologies for the confusion, for the avoidance of doubt it's this. I'd propose meeting at the middle path with all the trees, at the junction with the changing rooms. Failing that I suspect we'll be the only ones standing around gazing with fascination at each others lights.

Roseburn park then and there abouts it is. It's a shame they fixed the lights on the new Balgreen path as that would have been a perfect test ground.

The lights were out on the path at Roseburn Park last night. Perhaps the council are helping out?

It's on my route home and around the time I pass through, so I may stop and say hello.

Having sweated and swore , including one argument with my wife as to the location of my schottky diodes, into the night last night to try and get my stand light working again I'll not make it. I need to return a printer (the other source of yesterdays consternation) today and its amongst the small list of things that won't fit in a Carradice.

  5. Sadly I think I'm a no-show as well. Will see what 5pm brings...

I will be along later. Weather much warmer and drier than when Snowy and I met up for this event last year.

Looks like the troops were gathering as I headed past 15 minutes ago. Couldn't stop as I needed to get home (and also felt a bit shy)

It wasn't until I was nearly home that I realised that my rear light was off and I'd been relying on my helmet blinky light. Oh, the irony.......

Some of my photos from this evening should, in theory, be viewable here - if the Dropbox gods have decided this is unacceptable and it doesn't work please let me know and I'll find somewhere else.

A suboptimaly productive evening for Kaputnik; on taking the first ride out, I toe-overlapped the bejesus out of his front mudguard and so he missed much of the subsequent light jousting as he tried to finger-plier it back into shape.

@Stickman, we probably unsettled many of the cyclists-by, specifically the ones with bright but responsible mounting, since we assumed they were one of us. Nothing to be shy about, except for the bit at the start where newcomers have to justify themselves to us while we stand in hostile silence.

    Cree lights are fearsome.

Round beam patterns aren't the best on road.

A SMIDSY on biketrain ought to be a de facto admission of driving without due care, since there's shiny stuff everywhere on that fella.

@allebong - Ooo, I think I'm (not) in one of those, judging by the height of the light trail.

The long exposure makes the ambient light seem much more than in "reality".

    Thanks for these!

Cool pics, was no4 a Brompton? Looks low, maybe recumbent? No five looks quite spooky with the see through bike! :-o

That's why I suspect it was me, on the Brompton - I think Uberuce was behind at that point, just prior to ghostly Uberuce (in 5)...

Egads! A lazer-guided Uberuce is something to see.

So, if used on the road Crees are likely to irradiate drivers and prevent them having children? I've not used my C&BSeen Cree-based light yet, but was planning on a couple of Arthur laps tomorrow to try it out. I'll make sure it's pointing down the way...

Bar one, I haven't attempted to correct exposure levels in Photoshop, partly because my monitor isn't really calibrated. I did attempt to capture some different beam shapes but haven't had time to edit them yet.

I spy with my little cyo - view from the torpedo's cockpit; CCEers are about 100m away.

I spy with my little cyo (edit) - levels corrected to replicate camera LCD and my memory.

Retroreflectives no.1 - Roibeard (left) and biketrain (right)

    Retroreflectives no.2 - Uberuce I think

Photonic overload - Uberuce, possibly being a bit too visible.

    @Uberuce - mudguard will buff out, worry-ye-not.

Seriously impressive lights on display. Think we all agreed that the strobing flash patterns on offer on the Niterider range are worse than useless.

For some reason I thought this was Thursday rather than Tuesday! Doh...

Aye that's the problem having a week with two days starting with the same letter.

Do you mix up Suturday and Sanday?

@Kaputnik, do you mean the front strobing or the rear? Declaration of interest, I have a cherry bomb which I've always considered highly visible :-/

@Smudge - the Mininewt (350lux) that I have and whichever one Ubers had (650lux?) on his lid. They are bright white with a very rapid flashing pattern.

Some nice images with digital trails...

Arellcat had twice the Cyo power I see.

Fimm and any others who couldn't make it - sure there'll be another get together. No beer was involved

Now that my mudguard is back in business, I'll be ready for the next attempt.

Allebong - your photos are excellent.

The strobing on the minewt will get you noticed by other road users, but I'm not sure I'd want to rely on it in strobe mode to see by.

It's called Daylight Visibility mode, which is all I've used it for. I imagine it'd have too much backwash to be a good fog light.

If I was of hiking/camping ilk, I think I'd bring it along in case I had to signal for help.

@Uberuce - you'd have to be pretty good to control it for exactly 6 flashes, which is the recognised night time distress signal. Your recipient would also have to be pretty good at high-speed counting!

A whistle is more effective, cheaper and more reliable.

"you'd have to be pretty good to control it for exactly 6 flashes"

Or just put your hand in front.

"A whistle is more effective, cheaper and more reliable"

So that's the next challenge -

Does my whistle sound big in this?
